Domain - url

Post by H13 » Sat Jan 20, 2007 4:28 pm

Hello,

I need help with creating URL. I have e.g. forum on my joomla site. Link to this forum is:

http://www.myjoomlasite.com/index.php?o ... orum&view=...

but I need this link:

http://forum.myjoomlasite.com (http://www.myjoomlasite.com/forum/)

How can I do it? This domain (forum.myjoomlasite.com exists, but I can't use mod_rewrite on my webhosting)

Thank you.

This is not a Q&T issue - But you could always redirect to the real url.

Please review the forums and post in the most appropriate forum for your question in future.

Install your forum in the sub-domain as a separate entity to the Joomla! installation, in the same way that the Joomla! site is configured.

You  want search engine friendly (SEF) urls.  OpenSEF is a good solution for that, SEF Advance is a paid solution, etc.

SEF means urls are rewritten in a more "traditional" fashion. index.php?=stuff becomes site.com/stuff/stuff1.html

The core of Joomla has an SEF function (see Global Configuration) but the URLs don't use meaningful words.  Components like OpenSEF allow you to specify which words the urls are rewritten to.  You could very easily specify Joomlaboard to /forum/.

OpenSef is good answer

Or use subdomain..
Install forum in subdomain : http:://forums.yoursite.com
than use bridge to integrated with your joomla site
