I am not a scripter, but what if we somehow were able to have all of the names being entered at these sites in something like RSS? when someone enters a new name, it can be updated to hundreds or thousands of sites....seems like a good idea...but I may be wrong, or maybe we could do that now and I am overlooking that.

I was just thinking along the same lines as you JayDee...an RSS feed of each name list.

It's back online again (dont know though who did it, it wasn't me).

I will start wiping out the testdata now and prepare for importing the lastest lists of CODN, MSNBC and CNN.

I may need JayDee's assistance since I coud not get into phpMyAdmin on CODN last time.

Was anybody able to get other lists for import?

Hi all,

Sorry I'm so late but I'm here finally.  Have to leave to run my little one to a appt in about 30 min, but will be right back.

I can get SMF running, if nobody is on it.  I'll do that after configuring the medical.

JayDee- the RSS feed is a great idea.  It would be incredible to be able to do that.

If anyone has any questions, send em in

Any takers for the RSS feed job?

I think a feed of the latest X entries is not too difficult to create.

I can send you a short description of the table fields in case.

What is your schedule for going public, I wiped the test data and are prepared to get and import new snapshots, but I would like to do it immediately before we go public.

Peter,

I'm catching up, but it depends on where things lay on "the list."  I havent even looked at the site yet, been catching up here and on emails, and I have a bunch.

Recieved a member access component from John Long, have to get the medical up, and yes, we will be limiting access to medical, and will be keeping it completely seperate from the main app.

How is the forum going?  Is that stopped or still going forward.  Have to read the press release

Weee!

I tried again but still cannot get phpMyAdmin up. I do it this way:

Login to plesk
- Databases
- jd_mambo
- DB WebAdmin

Then it takes a while, but nothing happens.

Just a thought: could it be because I use firefox, or is that supposed to work?

Yes ist working with IE for me too. Must be the automatic popup blocker of firefox I guess.

My plan is this:

- You place an annoucement on the frontpage that the disaster database will be offline for 15-30 minutes.
- Unpublish the menuitems of the disaster component
- Allow about 5-10 minutes for people entering stuff to complete
- Unpublish the forms so they are no longer accessible also by links
- I export your tables and import them to disastersearch.org
- Meanwhile you can prepare new menuitems and change all links in the content to point to disastersearch.org,
and install the new search module (optional)

Can we give this a go? Any doubts from others?

Okay the Forum is live guys. I need to eat, see if you can tweak boards/permissions etc. Logindata has been emailed to JonCutrer and Peter.

PS is it possible to constantly add new entries for all the other databases into this one? That would be good... Get the message out there if the medical thing has been decided on, and stress that this website holds data from all major databases. THAT'S the unique thing.

PS Peter, have a look at the registration, because the link provided in the new login form registers users in both Mambo and SMF. Maybe you need to update the other form somehow? Luckily you're the star on that.

Sounds like a plan...except I have to be at the shelter in a few minutes... I apologize, but I also Pastor a Local church here and we are working various places today, so I need to coordinate that... there is no internet at the shelters yet (coming-we have IP Phones thru the wireless Inet Provider) so I may be away for an hour or 2... is that too long?

Can I go ahead and do this, or do I need to wait until you say "Go"

Peter,

I heard on TV that the main place that folks were entering in missing people info was at the red cross website.  Have you been there, or seen it?  I have no clue, but thought you might want to check it out.

I have the links to Red Cross all over our site, and have numerous emails of people who tell me they like a simple way to put in ALL of their family at once, and at the time (dont know about now) you had to enter one at a time...I think tahts why folks keep checking these other boards...wish we could access their list and add it to ours somehow...link them ALL...

PETER:

Go ahead, the site is at your command...I appreciate that, will be back ASAP

Mambosolutions has allready ponted to it.

The data collected are quite similar as ours, allthough the application  does not feel very iintuitive for me.

If we had a contact at red cross, we could kindly ask the site admin for an export....?

Not sure what i am getting at here, but it seems to me that we need to open this site reak quick like, or its going to be obsolete for this situation. There are already 'people search' databases that are getting used. What is going to make ours different and what will make people aware of it?

Just asking the tough questions. I am behind this 100%

What are our criteria of thiings to have functioning on this site before we go live?

@Scott, this is what i said earlier. and brought the point up.

Someone can explain to me please. Are we aggregating all these major lists? in addition to taking new registrations?

I added banners link on main menu. So people can copy/paste the banner code to their wenbsites

not working 100% yet, but kinda. will get back to it later when I have time.

This is indeed the goal. We want to have all lists consolidated, accessible with a simple and intuitive interface that everybody can master, linked to various sites by modules and providing an rss feed for the latest X entries. Jon is working on a SOAP interface for other sites to directly access our database.

I will ask them to reply to this thread, please watch it with egle eyes Peter as I think you're the one capable of saying what needs to go where.

Sorry JB, didn't see the post where you brought that up.  Once we get the site up, I'll try to use the congressman to get to the Red Cross.

FYI, I just installed MAL, and the administration area got weird on me right after.  If anybody has any experience with it you might want to take a look.  It did install with no errors, but the menus began acting up throughout admin.

Guider,

John Long, who was kind enough to donate the component for us, is supposed to be on in an hour or so, and he's supposed to skype me.

Thanks!

You guess right - popup blocker needs to be turned off before clicking on DB WebAdmin.

Great going, everyone!
