Hi pals!
I've woked with Joomla for 2 years now.
Have not yet found the right/best/appropriated Web host for Joomla.
I use Joomla Pre-instaled from the host.
Always with no exception I have problems...as soon as I upload new tempaltes or plugins,componets etc..the problems with MySQL starts..
Now one of my sites is out of order as; 404 ERROR because the server/host hotel is having a high traffic, or some other lame excuse that won't let the site to show or to login as ADm. In short.
no front end and no back end.

You guys that are smart and are use to Joomla..tell me.
Where is a Web Host that gives me 500 Gb of bandwith as well space for 100 USD a year and is Joomla Correct?

I have used Go Daddy for quite a while and have been very satisfied and they meet your pricing criteria. However, I NEVER use their Joomla install ... I ALWAYS upload and install the latest version (or the one I require) that I obtain from Joomla.org. No issues, ever, none ... on more than 20 Joomla sites with loads of extensions and templates.

http://www.hostmonster.com is by far the best I have ever used. Right now they have unlimited hosting space, bandwidth, and email accounts for $5.95 a month. You could also go the easy way and run your own server. Then you always have exactly what you want and are in complete control. Learn more about that at http://www.ubuntu.com

I forgot to mention, also with hostmonster you can use simplescripts to install joomla automatically for your site.

Not yet found the right host for my sites.
I have being around for some time now and can't go trought the end of my subscriptions.
Always something....hackers attackers, slow motion servers, crappy..crappy really support team and all the others headaches that goes with the territory of having 8-10 sites running under same 'roof' having same amount of domains etc..
As I like Joomla more and more...besides it I use some Flash sites too...but mostly problems are with Joomla because its so active, needs care all the time, all the time you wanted to improved something etc..its I presume kind of difficult to find the right stuff for it.
Mostly I choose to instal Joomla direct from the sites CP..maybe that's my mistake but...

Anyone here can say its not that the problem?
Now I'm starting to believbe its all a matter of MARKETING. 'the best web host site' list is not real but pay stuff.
Can anyone say I'm wrong?
So how do you go for a honest measurement of spped in the site's and support as well, good CP and excelent Mysql that you can move around withouth be in fear...
Please I could have some guidance here.
Out of my league these ones like 'rochen' where the price are for 'milionaires' and the space for 'poor, simple and single guy'.

Our plans are certainly not the cheapest out there but far from the most expensive either. If you compare our managed hosting prices to the likes of RackSpace I think we will be on the lower price end every time. You also wont see us offering crazy bandwidth and disk space quotas as this just leads to overloaded servers and poor performance in the long run. Some hosts are now even offering "unlimited" quotas on disk space etc.

It is our aim to provide the best value possible while delivering the best performance and support we can. If we started using SATA-II 10K drives instead of SAS 15K, dropped services like Rochen Vault or reduced the number of support engineers working each shift and made other changes like these, then I am sure we could drop our pricing back a bit. Most of our customers don't want us to just be another "average host" though but they still want us to be affordable.

I certainly don't accept you have to be a millionaire to enjoy hosting with Rochen though. We have plans that cost less than $0.30 per day (dropping more per site with the more you host) and often offer promotional codes for discounts on your first month too. Heck, it cost me more for coffee and two breakfasts at McDonalds before the Vancouver Joomla Day than a month's hosting from Rochen does... and I am not even a big guy

Our aim is really to provide a highly reliable and honest service while still being able to make a profit, stay in business and continue doing what we love. We will not meet everyone's needs though, which is what is so great about the web hosting market with all the choice out there.

Besides such performance advantages, you should take into account that all extra work and every lost hour will costs you money (and give you much frustration).
At quality hosting you won't have much troubles with setting up Joomla and running a website.
At cheap low quality hosting you will loose much hours in tweaking, problem finding & solving, communication with the hosting company, lost information, time for creating your own back-ups, and so on.
And during the time that you spent on such issues you cannot do other work (and get paid) (this is known as opportunity cost).

Here in The Netherlands I have experience with a broad range of hosting companies and different server set-ups.
I have good experiences with a couple of hosting companies. My clients are free to choose their own Joomla hosting. But I will charge them for all the extra hours that I need in tweaking the server, solving the problems and communicating with their hosting company. And from my experiences I can say that in the end the cheap hosting companies loose at this point.

You could do some calculations yourself:

• compare the yearly price for hosting at a reliable (somewhat more expensive) hosting company
  with some cheap low quality one.
• Divide the difference by your hour rate.
• It results in the amount of time that you are allowed to spend for all issues with the cheap hosting.

If you think that you might needs some extra time in solving possible issues,
then the somewhat more expensive hosting is cheaper!
BTW: I did not take into account all the benefits of fast reliable web hosting for your website (and your visitors)...

I'd just like to echo the comments about Rochen and say that the old adage still hold: You truly do get what you pay for.

While in the asp.net world, I went with a $4.95/month host that offered unlimited everything, etc, etc, etc...after complaining about the speed (and my members complaining), I did some reserch and found 7K+ other websites being served on my shared host server.

When I migrated over to Joomla, I did a lot of research and settled on Rochen (perhaps the fact that the J! mothership used them was the tipping point for me)...and will be using Rochen so long as I Joomla.

I can't, however, comment on their customer service, as I have never had to contact them...godsend.

Let me tell you about hosting, it's not about band width, it's not about web space and it's not about all these free programs they give you. All those "free" programs they supposedly give you are actually free to start with!

It's all about CPU!

The minute you go over 100+ users online at any given time, your host will shut you down and give you an ultimatum to either move to a dedicated server or move out.

Dedicated servers start at $100 USD per month and this is where they make their money not with unlimited this and unlimited that for $4.99 a month.

This has been my experience with hosting and thought I would share this.

For what it's worth I totally recommend http://www.siteground.com their support is excellent as well as their price.

Really?? It's often about the service, server security, as well as other value added products. (Not the free ones) However, you're entitled to your own opinion.

In any case, there really is no best host, only the best host FOR YOU. If you choose well, and take important factors into account then you will have found the best host.. FOR YOU.

Service? Is usually very good on most hostings. Server security? Well we all know how Joomla does in that field! Pretty bad. Value added products? Give me one script that is NOT freely available. Apache free, Linux free, PHP free, free, free. MySQL freebie. All scripts in Fantastico are free open source products you can download for free.

Why don't you offer ASP? Oh I almost forgot, it's NOT free! Why don't you offer MS SQL? Well...I will tell you why...it's NOT free.

And what happened to self advertising? To whom do the rules apply to? How come YOU get to advertise your Rochen hosting and the rest can't even whisper the word advertise? What happened to the forum rules???

You work for Rochen, you know it's all about CPU.

There is a difference between self advertising and meet a statement and explain. We are kinda going off topic here.


I really don't agree here, Personally I feel it's a combination of CPU, location, service, security and price. Different people have different priorities. If it was true, there wouldn't be any service at all anywhere.

Why does rochen get to self promote in the threads and all other hosts that self promote get their threads removed? I understand rochen hosts this forum but don't you think that is a little bias moderators? Enforce your rules for everyone or let other hosts promote too!

Yes let's be honest. I have not blatantly broken the rules to this forum and flat out promoted my hosting company via a thread. I have included my hosting company in my signature which isn't against any rules.

I have limited experience, but thought I'd share it for what its worth. I have really appreciated the customer service provided by Host_Monster for a newbie/ non-programmer like me to set up. They are 24/7, apparently native English speakers who seem to know what they're doing without having to elevate the issue to a better technician. The pricing plans are amazingly inexpensive with basically everything I could EVER need and more. I have the basic level of service and am satisfied.

HOWEVER, I am finding page load time/ slow load time to be an issue on my sites with only the most basic extensions installed.

Note: I have found the SOBI extension to really cause slow page load times. Had to uninstall it and try something else.

This is because HostMonster and BlueHost (both owned by the same person) have a limit in place for CPU & memory usage. They also overload their servers.

well is really a HOT ISSUE!

Still can't find a GOOD, BUDGET solution for my needs.

The host I'm now is: SERVAGE.NET based in Germany.
About January 08 I start there now I'm having the problems I wrote in the top, and worst of all; they just TOOK AWAY from their 'auto-installers' Joomla.
quoting here the answer they gave me:'

Due to some issues we have taken out the joomla option from the auto installer so you will have to install it manually at your end.

I remember when the Joomla 1.5.5 hack was discovered it took Fantastico (handles the one-click Joomla install) about 1 week to get it updated which is probably why your host removed the option within your control panel.

As of today Fantastico installs the latest version of Joomla 1.5.7.

Yha. I like the auto click install scripts but i wish they kept them more updated.

again, why big hosts like SERVAGE.NET has taken away Joomla from theirs installers?

Most auto-installers do not update the software alot and it could mean that the Joomla! version on there is out of date and has some Security Vulnerabilities.

I dont know what Id do without my auto click. I was also wondering if there is a program that allows for multiple copy and paste. I need sometimes to copy more than one command without having to go back and forth, that would be a profitable program!

As a complete newbee to joomla and experiencing a myriad of beginner errors, I faced my biggest challenge to date... remote hosting. Transferring my local joomla site onto my remote host was a horrific experience.

I can’t tell you who the best host is, but I can tell you who I feel is the worst. 1and1.

My now "kicked into touch" host, were no help when it came to those migrating errors I've been reading so much about. After much reading and many calls to their tech department I finally resolved the issue but never again will I put myself through that. To give you an idea, the telephone support was horrendous, they have one of those outsourced call centres. Which is fine when you can understand one another….
