Hmm it seems everyone has their favourite...

osCommerce and Pinnacle Cart seem to get the thumbs up from clients and collegues of the company I work for. Even CS-Cart has its supporters.

IXXO seems to be down again today. Are you getting the same problems? If this is something that happens a lot with IXXO, I'm going to really regret paying for it. :(

I'm about to throw Virtuemart through the freakin' window! I'm a fairly experienced coder, but the inability to edit and change orders while having the taxes apply to new changes is REALLY getting my goat. I just finished searching Joomla for solutions for e-commerce and am quite happy I found this thread.

I'm frustrated as heck with it's slow, pudgy menu system, and the fact that trying to get answers on the forum is like pulling teeth. I currently have an entire active site, built-up around VM, but I'm going to have to take it down for a couple days as I look into adding ZenCart to it.

I know VM is free, but it's sorely lacking in both support and features. Ugh! Good riddance!

OsCommerce is the most stable and experienced but with old engine, I like more Magento. VirtueMart is the best option if you want to have portal where online shop is one of the component (becouse of Joomla), but if you need only e-commerce site i would go for Magento.

I have downloaded the trial version of IXXO Cart and it seems exactly the same as Pinnacle Cart in terms of folders and file structure (apart from the fact that every single file is encrypted, including free third party code like Smarty). Even the admin interface looks identical as well as their slogan "making e-commerce work". Does anyone know if they are an official reseller? Their features imply that it is a fork as Pinnacle Cart does not have Multi-Vendor functionality. If it is a fork, is it official? Will improvements in Pinnacle Cart be reflected in IXXO? We are an official Pinnacle Cart reseller and I am convinced that it is a fork, but as some of Pinnicle Cart's code is encrypted, it would make developing new features like Joomla integration and Multi-Vendor imposable! If anyone could shed some light on this connection, I would be greatly appreciated.

Also, has anyone tried the Multi-Vendor aspect of IXXO Cart? Their Multi-Vendor Online Demo is "currently being updated"...

Many thanks! :)

After some Googleing, I have found this post which is more evidence that Pinnacle Cart and IXXO Cart are actually the same:

OK, IXXO Cart is definitely (or was definitely) Pinnacle Cart! I searched through all of the files from the free trial and although every php file is encrypted, the string "pinnaclecart" appears once in \content\engine\payment\google\google-log.txt and 12 times \install\install.sql (not to mention that the database structure is identical as well)!

Can anyone confirm whether IXXO is an official partner/affiliate/reseller/fork of Pinnacle Cart?

I very much hope IXXO is 100% legitimate because we need Multi-Vendor functionality, but something definitely doesn't seem right to me!... :-\

Hey there people,

I have been using Virtuemart on one of my own sites till date. There are numerous problems that i have had to face for the chechout process. The fact that having INR as a currency (not supported by PayPal) was just the tip of the iceberg. Connecting to Moneybooker, in my opinion, requires a fair bit of coding (a hack essentially)

The mere fact that Viruemart is increasingly being used worldwide and they still do not natively support INR (Indian Rupees) can be a bit of a pain.

I am personally hunting for a good shopping cart that easily integrates with Moneybooker. Planning to try out Magento. Will keep you all posted on how it all works out.

Cheers!!!!!

Came across this thread while looking for alternatives to VM for Joomla. I've just inherited a site with VM installed (but not up and running) and configured to use Authorize.net but was a bit surprised to see that it captures the customer's CC details on the site and then sends them to Authroize.net.

OMG! Isn't this a bit first generation?

Having read the documentation I see this is how it handles transactions for a few payment processors. So you're expected to install an SSL certificate just to use the shopping cart?

Having read this complete thread I've come to the conclusion that there is no easy solution which is pretty surprising now that Joomla is pretty established.

Right now the PayPal shopping cart is looking pretty good! :-[

If this is not current - what is?

Virtuemart forums seem to answer about 1/2 the problems posted there. I could definately see purchasing some support from them as opposed to free because its now a business site - not somebodies personal blog that could wait for answers.

Overall - its very nice, but once you have problems you are up a creek.

'Current' would be all the processing, including the collection of CC details and personal information, being carried out on the processors secure website, not on yours. For a very simple example look at PayPal.

I have been looking and trying different shopping carts for a while now. Digistore so far looks the most promising but I will keep you all updated if I find something better.

Check out CARTwebERP. Just released Joomla Component. http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... 53/details
This is a heavy duty, commercial, "thin", shopping cart. Most of the beef is in webERP, which includes accounts receivable, stock fulfillment and replenishment with reorder levels and POs. webERP even does very sophisticated manufacturing processes like bill of materials, job cost and financial statements. Thats right Balance Sheet and P&L!

Clearly the Joomla shopping cart with the strongest backend.
I guess that is why it is listed in bridges!

Good topic. Keep it going. Always useful to read up on others opinions.

In the past I have used Actinic, OSCommerce, X-Cart v4.1.x, Cubecart v3 & v4, VirtueMart and agree with a lot of the comments here. All ecommerce solutions have weaknesses so you need to choose one that fits your needs the most.

Cubecart is by far the easiest system to use; it is nice and quick and has great SEO out of the box. Apart from that, the changes from v3 to v4 seem to be very minor and not worth the money. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Cubecart but most admin tasks are a chore and it is missing some important features that in my mind should be standard.

The fact that if you ask support anything to do with editing code (e.g. if you wish to change the default sort order of your products) they will simply refuse outright and point you to the community forums. They also instantly refer you to 3rd party mods for extra features. To be honest the shipping options out-of-the box are very poor and have not changed much over the last few years. I find most my sites unusable without installing Estelles All-in-One Shipping mod. Templates are cubecarts strongest asset I’d say.

OSCommerce is dated and would require a programmer to make a good site out of it - I’ve seen some very nice sites as of late and was shocked when I found out the were Osc.

X-Cart came with too many features, and turning some of them off is like it is in cubecart - you must modify the code. I will have to make time to view ZenCart.

VirtueMart is nice in that it is Joomla component. That's about all I can say. The admin is bulky; it's confusing to find the options you need; tax & shipping are and awkward; both the standard and advanced interfaces are buggy. Having to reload the page just to view that price update. Stupid. I maintain a number of VM stores and wish I had time to port them over to something better.

A friend uses Magento, and while it’s a powerful system it’s resource heavy - even on a dedicated box it’s tough. He says there is still a lot that must be fudged in by hardcoding in templates.

Anyone tried ubercart for Drupal? It's supposed to be good, but then that does mean configuring Drupal and all of it's modules and dependancies...

I have had alot experienece with many different e-commerce packages; Joomla Specific, and External to Joomla.

Drawing upon my own experieneces, the very first one I used; osCommerce, I thought was too basic...about 2 years later after using many others, I feel that it is one of the cleanest packages out there. Easily editable, vast amount of professional services available if necessary and the support teams are always very helpful!

I think ZenCart has an edge over osCommerce, in that it uses osCommerce as its platform (clean, easy to install and edit) but has some major improvements (e.g. template integration and styling capabilities) and is continuously updated. The developers team at ZenCart is constantly expanding also.

In all, use osCommerce if your looking for a solution that will do everything a basic shop needs. However, if you have a bit more time and energy, and wish to have more capability with your online shop, go for ZenCart!

I have not used Magento yet though! But (as quoted already in this thread twice) have seen from a couple of profesional reviews that hosting on shared servers can be intensive!

Virtuemart will work for most. However If you have heavy attributing needs then you'll be challenged.

There is a Joomla Shopping Cart. CARTwebERP mentioned earlier in this thread that is posted in the bridge section of Joomla since it is more of a bridge than a shopping cart. When installed on a Joomla web site, you configure the component to read the webERP accounting database for all normal shopping cart data.

There is no shopping cart data to maintain. Enter inventory in your accounting package and it appears on the shopping cart. Upload a picture for the part in the accounting inventory and it appears on the shopping cart along with the part. Upload a video, audio, pdf sales brochure, or a manual and it also appears as a link along with the part and picture.

You add products one time in your accounting software and the shopping carts starts to sell it immediately! Sales orders are placed in your accounting database not in a Joomla database to be synchronized with your accounting in a separate step.

This cart is really for people with lost of inventory that want to take advantage of this bridge to allow their customers to enter their own orders, even if they are to use accounts receivable instead of credit cards. Companies that have hundreds of orders per month need the strong backend provided by this accounting software to track inventory, build and sell kits of inventory, manufacture a product, and display true available quantities.

For that big of an endeavor maybe you should consider a bridge that works like a shopping cart. CARTwebERP. It is under bridges in Joomla because there is no shopping cart data created or kept in the Joomla database. This shopping cart connects directly with webERP accounting system. It displays the data from the accounting system, including a picture, and links to download sales brochure, manual, video, or audio, referenced in the accounting system.

With that many parts, maintaining both a cart and an accounting system can be a nightmare. Price changes and tracking on hand quantities can easily get out of hand. Perhaps I could modify CARTwebERP to fit whatever accounting system you use if it has an API. Or we could import your current accounting data to webERP. This is truly a state of the art integration.

It was originally designed for an auto parts wholesaler so there is a sophisticated year, make, model, and category selection component and replacement part component.

This cart is not for a hobby web site. This is real accounting integrated with a shopping cart shell. Nobody wants to enter and maintain double data!

I spent an age reading reviews and forum post of various ecommerce solutions and finally stumbled across one that seems like a bit of a well kept secret. It's called Prestashop (http://www.prestashop.com). Now I'm not an e-commerce developer so I can't really speak with any authority but from all that I'd read this one really seems to have a lot to offer and at the least I'd recommend checking it out. Oh and it's open source and free, well at least until you start paying for extensions, although the default feature list is pretty impressive.

Main down sides I can see are that being new it doesn't have much in the way of themes. I'm also not sure if it's suitable for the North American market as it's developed in Europe but don't quote me on that.

Like I say, I'm not a pro developer so I may be totally wrong on this one. I'd be interested to hear other's thoughts on it though as I'm about to start work on a shop of my own so don't want to spend time on something that's going to turn out to be trash.

PrestaShop is a good eCommerce shopping cart which is simple and light but powerful at the same time. It works fine with the American market and it even has a multi-currency feature if you plan to target multiple audiences. ;)

I have a great deal of experience with shopping carts in general and think that virtuemart is not bad as long as you have a little bit of coding understanding. I have used zencart and it is brilliant for a free shopping cart with just about everything you could want,Cube cart is OK but commercial. Oscommerce works but is dated now. ixxo cart (I have never found a satisfied customer). I have just tried Opencart and so far I am impressed http://www.opencart.com/ Like most of the others you will have to call it in a wrapper for joomla and as yet there is no bridge but for the most part shopping sites are not community sites so you only need to log into the shopping system not joomla.
