Did anybody see this article on CNN? (sorry if this is a repost) but it's a huge step for the Open Source community, but really? Drupal? Thoughts?

Very good for open source software and very cool for Drupal. I heard a Drupal guy on Twitter say "The White House is now Blue." Not sure where you go from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. :)

I was glad to see this happening, giving some real credibility to Opensource.
Of course, us joomlanites would have preferred they chose Joomla.

I remember when I was first choosing a CMS to develop with, and I checked out the available ones at the time, mainly Drupal, phpwebsite, some others I can't remember, WordPress (i know, not cms), and Mambo.

For me, it came down to Drupal and Mambo, and I went for Mambo because at the time Drupal seemed a little cartoonish. And I actually liked the community as it was making a strong statement breaking away from Mambo to create Joomla.

Over the years, Drupal really gathered some steam and allowed it to become a great program. Some might argue that it is better than Joomla, as perhaps the Whitehouse decided. But instead, I like to think of it as a nice friendly competition between two development teams/communities, working off each other to create a better product for everyone.

Looking forward to 1.6. :)

Brian

Well I have to say that since the Drupal team founded Acquia they are lobbying and promoting the opportunities they offer really hard. However I can not say whether they are outstripping Joomla on a number of users. I think they are still behind.

I'm surprised they went with another program, Joomla is by far the best. I guess I'm just glad they went with an open source cms.

Bingo. Drupal has a lot of momentum behind it right now. I often wondered why Joomla doesn't have a corporate component supporting it much like Acquia does. And with more web developers turning to open source for their project needs, now is the time to be out in the forefront as the top CMS.

I agree. I was a bit jealous it was drupal and not joomla. I mean I use both but I still prefer J! . Anyway maybe the core team should consider running a more commercial entity (not Opensource matters) that can push J! from a business point of view.
