Hi,

I'm running Joomla! 1.5.14 and JoomFish v2.0.3.

I am running an English based site - with Traditional Chinese as the 2nd language.

Have not had any problems translating English text to Chinese - until now.

From the Admin menu I select Component - JoomFish - Translation, then I select my article.
Once in my article - I input my Chinese text into the fullText translation, and in the top right hand Publishing box - I select Language=Chinese and Published=On. When I click on Apply - the page refreshes but my settings of Language/Published are not saved.

The strange thing that is happening is now my site is showing Chinese text on the English toggle, and vice versa.

I am really stumped on this one :'( - I haven't had any issues translating text previously and I follow exactly the same method as described above.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?? Your help is much appreciated.

Eric

It happened to me when I was new to JoomFish, if this suggestion is too basic for you...forgive me :-[
Check the language when you select the article to input Chinese translation. You should select the chinese language in the Joomfish translation interface.
The interface can be misleading, because it shows "Title" - "Language" - "Translation"
It's tempting to select the english language and fill the translation column with the chinese translation.

glasnhost - thanks for your suggestion..

Yes I tried that - but still the same issue...

The way am I getting around this right now is that for this one particular page (just so happens to be my main page) - I am using Chinese text on the English front page, and English text on the Chinese translation. And this swaps it over to display the correct translated text.

Yes I know a very ugly workaround - especially moving forward when managing the site and maintaining content especially on handover to a new administrator - but that's the only way I can seem to solve this problem.

Note: All my other pages - are displaying the correct translations perfectly. That is what's bugging me.

Hi,

did you check the translation as glasnhost suggested? So just a quick check if the translation is saved into the right language.

Regards, Carolien

Thanks glasnhost/Carolien - finally got this to work!

From Article Manager - I check the article checkbox - then select translate to "chinese" and a popup appears where I enter the translation, rather than going into the nested menus [Component - JoomFish - Translation - Article].

I guess it's just understanding the intricacies of joomla better and where to update content. Still alot of learning for me to do!

Hi Bloobug,

I presume you're using Joom!Fish 2.0.3, which has a bug in exactly that module (in saving languages etc.). I advise you to upgrade to Joom!Fish 2.0.4. This version also fixed a security issue.

Regards, Carolien

Hi Carolien,

Thanks for the advice..

I am trying to upgrade to JF 2.0.4 using the JoomFish2.0.3_to_2.0.4_patch.zip from http://www.joomfish.net/en/downloads. However I am getting the error - "Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package." Any ideas?

Scouring the forums for an answer.

Eric

Hi,

You cannot install the patch through the installer. You need to unpack the patch and upload the files within the zip file, just as you do with a Joomla! update.

As an alternative you can just install the 2.0.4 installation package. It'll update too.

Regards, Carolien
