Switch language based on HTTP header?

Post by endi » Thu Feb 07, 2008 5:26 pm

Probably a stupid question, and probably asked very often here.

1. Installed Khepri and imported all of my content, templates and extensions. It works perfectly.
2. Downloaded official front-end language pack (italian)
3. Uploaded it into the extension installer, installed, it shows up in the language list.
4. I don't want it to be default, so the star stays next to English.

But now... I access my website (anonymously) and I still get English captions (notice: of course I don't mean my content, just module captions like "Login", "Forgot your password" and so on).

I know that my browser sends

Code: Select all

Accept-Language: it-it,it;q=0.8,en-us;q=0.5,en;q=0.3
I expect Joomla! to recognize my favourite language from the HTTP header and switch it for me. Did i get my configuration wrong, or did I get my expectations wrong?

thank you very much
Andy

Wrong expectation...

This would only be possible with a 1.5 compatible multilingual extension as joomfish.
Joomfish is not yet available for 1.5.

Language is displayed when defined as default.
A registered user may change the front-end language if desired.
