084 - Create a document entitled "How to include Squeezebox in your Joomla!
Hi, I'm a high school student and I've claimed this task. I've already gotten started on installing XAMPP & Joomla on a virtual machine, however I've run into a couple of issues.
1) I should use Joomla 1.5 RC3, instead of the nightly right?
2) Exactly what is the Joomla! Electronic Documentation License?
3) What does it mean by use logo and color scheme?
4) File format should be open office text, correct?
5) What is the extra credit, and what would the distance be between regular and extra?
Claimed: Dec 02 Due: Dec 23
Google Task
[me=AmyStephen]Changed subject slightly for sorting all threads to match against Google resource [/me]

Re: 084 - Create a document entitled "How to include Squeezebox in your Joomla!
Hi ddc -
Welcome to Joomla! and thanks for joining the GHOP contest.
I am going to start by responding to your five questions.
1) I should use Joomla 1.5 RC3, instead of the nightly right?
No. Please use the nightly download.
2) Exactly what is the Joomla! Electronic Documentation License?
Please check the wiki on the Joomla! GHOP website for the link to this license.
3) What does it mean by use logo and color scheme?
Again, on the wiki, you will find a link to this resource. For documentation, it is not as critical to follow this design guide as it is for marketing material, like a tri-fold. But, the wiki will have these links. Please read through that information.
4) File format should be open office text, correct?
Yes, Open Officer Writer .odt file is preferred.
5) What is the extra credit, and what would the distance be between regular and extra?
If your task identified something for extra credit, please consider that suggestion. In general, it's usually pretty easy to see effort that went beyond expectation. Give instructions using easy to follow steps. Add pictures. All of that helps produce helpful documentation and makes it easy for others to be productive.
Please read the thread GHOP Contestants Please Read: Task Process Start to Finish, which will help you to understand the process we need to follow with the contest.
Good luck! Look forward to seeing your progress,
Amy

Re: 084 - Create a document entitled "How to include Squeezebox in your Joomla!
When I tried to use the nightly, after untarring to /opt/lampp/htdocs/joomla, everytime I tried to access localhost/joomla it gave me a 403 forbidden. I'll try again, but if it happens again, how should I fix that? I've tried modifying the htaccess file and chmod'ing before, but it didn't help.

If you're having problems with the nightly snapshot, I would write the document while testing it on RC3, then test the final document on a different nightly snapshot before submitting. Nightly builds are not guaranteed to be stable, but I *usually* get a stable one at least half the time.
Edit: Or just try tomorrow.

Not certain if you discovered the Installation Guide, or not? Also, it's unclear to me - did you complete the install? Or, get the 403 prior to the installation?
Thanks!

Yes, I followed the installation guide links from the original post over at google. It's just that when I tried to configure it through the browser at http://localhost/joomla, it would give me 403 forbidden. Trying to access the install.php directly gave the same thing.

I've just downloaded yesterday's nightly, but I probably won't get to testing it until this weekend. Tips on what to do if it happens again would help though. Thanks.

I believe Bruce PM'ed you. He's a Ubuntu Joomla! Developer geek (and an all around nice guy!)

Re: 084 - Create a document entitled "How to include Squeezebox in your Joomla!
Thanks to Bruce, I've managed to get xampp + joomla up and running, however, I'm getting a little confused here, so I hope you can help me out.
Squeezebox: http://digitarald.de/playground/squeeze.html
Lightbox Forum Post: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php?topic ... .msg961421
Lightbox: http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2
First off, are those links correct?
Secondly, Squeezebox = Lightbox, correct? Otherwise, what is Squeezebox?
Apologies if this is a really easy question, but I've never used Joomla before, so I'm a little confused by the terminology.

Re: 084 - Create a document entitled "How to include Squeezebox in your Joomla!
Here's an update on my status:
I've got Joomla + XAMPP up and running on a virtual machine. I've already gone through the steps to get SqueezeBox working on a previous nightly, this is the current nightly and the one I plan to use for screenshots and documentation. I'll be writing up documentation both tonight and tomorrow, and will hopefully submit the pre-final draft by Monday. If I cannot do so for schoolwork or some other reason, I will submit the pre-final draft by next weekend. Either way, I hope to get criticism and peer reviewing done by the end of next weekend, so that I can finish it up that weekend, or if not possible, the Friday after (21st).

OK. I've finished it up. Here's the pre-final draft: http://members.cox.net/sxzhu/joomla.zip
Edit: I've changed some bits since I first uploaded it, so you might want to download it again.

Re: 084 - Create a document entitled "How to include Squeezebox in your Joomla!
This looks very, very good for a first draft.
In your images, consider using a long rectangle, instead of oval for the entire width of a page.
Double-check on a default install - I think much of the JS is already loading - so, loading it in the template would not be required. (for certain mootools.js is, I believe.)
Also, show a few images - how to create a little gallery - in your document, along with a single gallery and a popup page (all done nicely.)
Question: can you use multiple popups on one page? I think not. Try to address that question.

I've fixed up all the other issues, but I can't get a SqueezeBox gallery to work. This is what I have so far:
However, when clicking on the link, nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.

Please provide your newest guide, and I'll try to follow the instructions and see where there might be a problem.

OK. I've uploaded it, same URL. Keep in mind that the instructions for the gallery on there doesn't work, and that fig. L isn't up because I haven't got the gallery working yet.

I don't have time to debug it right now, but your #5 header javascript is not working.

Try to fix it - replace it in your document - then, test what's in your document and I'll try it when you post it.
Thanks!

I must have accidentally changed the Javascript on accident. I know I have the correct version that works at home, but I'm at school right now, so it'll be this afternoon before I get to it.

Apparently the ending script tags were cut off by the text box, though I'm not sure how the open script tag appeared. The correct version is below, and I've already updated the zip file.

Re: 084 - Create a document entitled "How to include Squeezebox in your Joomla!
Yes, it does.
BTW - Bruce and I were unable to get the Gallery working. :P
At this point - I'd add a statement to that effect.
Also, Bruce *just* pointed out to me that ToolTips break with Squeeze box in use. So, go ahead and add that statement, too.
If we can figure something out, we can change it - but for now, I think that's all we know.
Squeezebox can be used one time on a page for a single image or a single webpage. Given our collective knowledge between the three of us. If someone can show more - please do!
Finish up the doc and post it and we'll try to get this finalized.
Thanks ddcc! And, Bruce for all your help on this task!
