Hi,

My name is James Ramsay. I am 16 years old and live in Australia. This is the third task I have undertaken under the Google Highly Open Participation contest. I am looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into it :)

I was planning on beginning by just working roughly with text using Google Docs so that who ever is supervising can watch it in real time rather than me posting lots of updates.

Cheers,
James

Hi,

As I mentioned above, I am working on Google Docs cause that way people can see what I am doing  :)

VIEW: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dc8nb5dx_34hftkr4gw
EDIT: ... if you want to be able to edit or leave changes indicate so below and I can add you in...

I hope everyone had a very happy new years day. It is drawing to a close in Aus but for some it may still just be beginning. I hope the upcoming year is very enjoyable and productive  :D

Cheers,
James

P.S. Amy, I have already added you as a collaborator, so if you want to view/edit. Just go to http://docs.google.com then login and ther should a file waiting for you on the next screen!

P.S.S. Sorry about the relative emptyness of the document but I will get on with it tomorrow (waking hourse for me will probably begin 5 PM US Pacific which is about 10 AM Australian Eastern Standard Time)  ;D

Hi,

Was looking around the Joomla! Help site thinking that it may help me with brief outlines of what this and that do because my knowledge is limited with certain components and modules. However, when I search, for example "banner", I get a number of results but all the Joomla! 1.5 articles display the following message...
Code:
You are not authorised to view this resource.
You need to login.

Is it at all possible to gain access to these help articles?

Many thanks,
James

Hi again,

Regarding the help access, I can access it via the help button from within the Joomla 1.5 installation on my local computer.

Um, yea, I sorta like the design.  :o WOW! lol! That is really cool!

Very much like where you are going with this.

Regarding scope, I would not do system types of extensions (i.e., core backend), but anything that might be used to enhance the site, I would address.

Some, you could certainly put on one slide - for example, Most Read, News Flash, Related Items and Latest News could be combined.

You are creating nice documentation and *excellent* presentation material.

Thank you!
Amy :)

I always forget the wink when I think it's so obvious I am kidding.

James - when I opened it, I was blown away. I think that is WONDERFUL! So, good, in fact, I was surprised you asked *if* it looked good!

It's not "good" - it's GREAT!

Thank you!
Amy :)

Page 5 - Cahce - Cache

Periods and commas should be inside of the double quotes.

Page 13 - accuratly - accurately ; definitly - definitely

17 - inline fram in to - inline frame into

Excellent!

Hi,

Sorry for the slow reply. I have made significant furher progress with the document.

DIRECT LINK: http://bhsnerds.net/ftp/Joomla!%20Core%20Features%20V0.4.pdf

Sorry for the stupid spelling mistakes. I have had no success with OpenOffice's spell checking so I apolagise in advance for any others. I fixed the ones posted above. I will try to solve this very silly problem soon :D

Tomorrow I should get tempate pages done. If there are components/modules/plugins that are missing that you think should be there, feel free to point them out.

Cheers,
James

Chris-

Thanks for that. Yes I see what you mean when you said you didn't think they'll help very much.

Hope documentation work is going well for 1.5!

Hi,

New version. It now contains what I think are all the essential components, modules, plugins and the two templates.

DIRECT LINK: http://bhsnerds.net/ftp/Joomla!%20Core%20Features%20V0.5.pdf

I have some more little pictures/screenshots of the modules to do.

Cheers,
James

Wow!  I didn't know emails were cloaked!

Some of your images seem really low-res.  See if you can get them to a better resolution.

Also, under SEF URLs, you should probably use Firefox instead of IE, because it is open source as well.

Great job!

Hi!

Glad you learn't something new :D

Yes, I see what you saying with a few of the images. Tid hard to make them appear crisp as they are not vectors but I am working on it.
Will update the SEF URL's to be FireFox. I actually use IE (I know, its a crime :P) because I run 64-bit Vista and IE is the only browser compiled for x64.

Cheers,
James

James - am loving it. It is totally a very good - so what can you do with Joomla!, piece. There are a few spelling / comma / grammar things - not much. But, I think you are already very close.

Good work.

Hi,

I am glad you are liking it. In this new version, I have focused on updating images. I cannot really make certain images that crisp and maybe they are unnesecary and could be removed.

I will spend this afternoon hunting for spelling and grammar mistakes. If you can find any that would help as my editing skills are lacking :D

James -

There are very, very few. That's why I did not bother to report. You are close. I think when you say - you are ready for final review - we'll do a quick brush up - I need to see if I think there are features missing - then BOOM - you be done!  8)

So good!

Hi,

I have made a few adjustments to the contruction of the ODT, but nothing visibly different.
I would like to submit it for final review, pending all desired features are included and spelling mistakes :P

Hi,

Slight changes. I have changed a few of the non-screen shot images. They are now constructed out of the icon set that the Joomla backend uses. (http://nuovext.pwsp.net/). Sorry if the images aren't as high quality as you would like but unforunatly I cannot find a SVG or similar version of those icons :(

I also added a back page which I had forgotten.

LINK: http://bhsnerds.net/ftp/Joomla!%20Core%20Features%20V1.1.pdf

As far as I can see, there are no more changes to be made. Hope that there is nothing missing :D

Cheers,
James

Place all periods inside of double quotes.

James -

There are a couple of features:

  • Components - Contacts and Search;
  • Modules - Archived content; Breadcrumbs; Menu; Custom HTML; Footer; Login; Sections; Syndicate;
  • Plugins Authentication (Joomla!, LDAP, OpenID, Gmail); ...have to run (daughter's bday!) but look at the list of plugins compared to what is listed.

It is looking very good, just has a few missing gaps.

Thanks!
Amy :)
