Alrighty. Since the idea of the contest is, in part, to help the Open Source Projects whose task we are completing, I assume that means this art is more than just to fulfill a contest and that it will actually be used somewhere. With that in mind, I kinda doubt you'd want this particular piece up if it does not fit the motives of Joomla! That being said, I'll come up with something else. I just hope I can come up with something you like soon or else the deadline will come up on me XD

I'm sure you'll do fine. For me, it was a big change introduced today, but that's just me. I should not be considered your measure of what Joomla! stands for. I can only offer my perspectives.

Re: 072 - Create art that captures the spirit of All Together, As a Whole
Yeah, I did go for big change for several reasons. Actually, the first one once it was final you probably would have liked less XD. Also, it would have taken more than one month to complete it properly, and I should have realized it before I even started it.
Now, I have a new design already, and I think you'll like it a whole lot more. I should have a draft of it done in about 20 minutes.
EDIT: Actually, it may not be until tomorrow, I believe I am out of time today.

Ok, I'm just about done with it now, but i need one thing. If someone can give me the Joomla Logo (Without the words) as an image file, that would be great.

Wow! That looks really cool!
A couple things from my perspective:
-The text is a little hard to read. Are you able to write it in one color, and then outline it in another? That might work. It is hard to have readable text over a black and white surface.
-The only other thing I could add would be to make the white chess pieces a more cream color to diffrerentiate between that and the white board spaces.

Man I wish I still had Graphics Gale. I just switched to linux so I can't use it anymore until I get off my butt and put it in WINE. Graphics Gale lets me adjust contrast and outline text easier. instead, I'll have to manually outline the text *sigh*
I did notice it was a bit hard to read teh text, but then again I'm partially color blind so I wasn't sure if that was just me. I'll fix this up and have a new version in a little bit.

Well, here's one way to do it. I think it brings the text out too much though...

MUCH NICER! :-*
OK - keep in mind the logo requirements - must have a solid background.
SOOOO NICE!
You really nailed the community - all together, as a whole - for ME.
Thanks for this.

The logo usage guidelines require a solid background for use. One color for the entire logo.
Thanks,
Amy

Nice graphic! I would suggest something though - depending on the graphic program you use.
Can you hint the text? Hinting makes it slightly smoother around the edges especially when it contrasts the background.
Great job!

@Amy: Ooh, that diminishes from the image as a whole, but if that's the requirements for using the logo, I guess I'll have to do that.
@shantanu: I tried it, but it didn't really help it out all that much.
I'll have a new one as soon as I can. (I can't fix it right away, because now I'm working on a couple other things)

Please read the logo and branding guidelines carefully.DeM0nFiRe wrote: @Amy: Ooh, that diminishes from the image as a whole, but if that's the requirements for using the logo, I guess I'll have to do that.
It need not limit you artistically, but, yes, you must follow the requirements.
Thanks for understanding,
Amy

Surely the logo usage guidelines apply to third party use of the logo and not to joomla's own use of the logo.
It would be plain daft if joomla itself cant use its own logo how it wants to.
You dont have to look hard around the joomla.org websites so see that I am right.

Re: 072 - Create art that captures the spirit of All Together, As a Whole
I have an idea for you that would solve the logo and the text problem. Try turning the middle two rows to all white, and putting the logo and the text (make it smaller) in there. My only concern is that it wouldn't look like a chess board.

Re: 072 - Create art that captures the spirit of All Together, As a Whole
I believe what Amy is trying to say is that the logo itself has to be on a solid white background. Technically the logo is of demonfire's creation, even if it's licensed under the GPL.
Just my 2 cents, but the logo does look good, and making the background solid ruins its intended purpose.
-Shantanu
*EDIT
I believe I may have also sparked part of an arguement. I should have specified that the logo that demonfire created, according to the GHOP rules, is GPLed.
I used the word logo too many times... What I was trying to say is that Demonfire is using the logo to create a graphic which is licensed under the GPL. The graphic demonfire creates is his own creation, and not Joomla's, but its license permits the Joomla project to use it.
Sorry if anything I said sparked this.

If you wish to discuss the logo requirements, doing so in the Google's Highly Open Participation Contest area is not at all appropriate or appreciated. The community is expected to follow our guidelines. If you wish to report an infraction please do so following these guidelines. If you want to provide feedback on the work accomplished by our contestants, your involvement *is* appreciated.guyjosephuk wrote: Surely the logo usage guidelines apply to third party use of the logo and not to joomla's own use of the logo.

Further questions/discussion regarding Logo requirements by guyjosephuk moved to the Foundation Working Group forum area.
Thanks for staying focused on feedback for the GHOP contestants in this forum area.

Re: 072 - Create art that captures the spirit of All Together, As a Whole
So that there is no misunderstanding, the Logo is not GPL.
OK! It's a solid background, now ! But, there is not adequate contrast. :P
Both requirements are on page 19 of the Joomla! Brand Manual, it is required that the logo not be reproduced on a busy background.
If you can possibly adjust to place it on a solid background with contrasting color (black or white are great!), it would be very much appreciated.
Part of the experience of the contest is adapting to the open source community's rules and processes. This is not necessarily easy but I am confident you can do so in a way that makes your art stronger and shows respect for the community. For an artist to successful support branding guidelines and still express art is critical. Given the skill I have seen already, I do not expect this to be an insurmountable challenge.
Thanks for hanging in there! When you are done doing so for Joomla!, doing art for Coke will be a piece of cake!

Can it fit into one square? (Make certain to give it adequate room as that is another logo guideline! :P )

Wow, you guys have some strict rules on that logo
So, before I add words and make the pieces the right color again, does this fit the rules?

Nice-- but I think it is a little hard to read now. I liked the solid background behind the words. Made the contrast much better for these old eyes.

Hmm, alright I think I can do that. I'll wait til I see what other people say though to make sure. I just think that makes the words overbearing to the image.

I personally think the font is great, and it looks a lot better than before since it seems hinted and blended.
But, a color change may make it easier to read. Try to keep the fonts as well blended as they are now.
Great work!
