142 - Implement WorldKit.org Mapping as a Joomla! v 1.5 Extension
Hello!
This extension looks interesting to me so I choosed it as my second task of the contest.
Task at google:
http://code.google.com/p/google-highly- ... %20Summary
My first one was a meebo me module:
http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,243489.0.html
I think the main thing of the component is to manage the items which will be shown on the map. For this it has to edit the rss-file. I think there are any classes for this in the Joomla API. Furthermore the configuration must be written to the seperate xml-file. That's it for the core "worldKit", I think. But maybe there is more possible with the GeoWiki. I don't really know yet what it is for.

I found out that there is a possibility to don't have any real XML files. The configuration parameters can be given to the SWF file through GET-variables and the xml-file for the items can be generated dynamic with a php script outputting xml-code. I think this is much better than editing the xml-files.
Also I plan to integrate a solution with a webservice of http://www.geonames.org/. With this it's possible to only enter the country and postal code and let the component automatically search for the city name and the coordinates.

Hi Jonas -
Have you been able to find time, or is this something you need to set aside for now?
Let me know what you think. Either way, it's okay - whatever works for you.

Hi Amy,
I think I have to set aside of it for now and better let it do by someone else. I'm sorry for this and I really would like to do it but at the moment I don't have the time for it. Last week I got an application to create a homepage (of course with Joomla!) for a local company. That's why my time is very spare at the moment.
So please open the task again. I would be happy to give all the informations I got yet to the person claiming the task.
