133 - Create a Joomla! v 1.5 Module for meebome Instant Messaging

Hello!

My name is Jonas, I'm 17 years old and come from Bremerhaven (Germany - Europe). This is my first task in the GHOP because I didn't see it before. I work with Joomla for a year now I think. Beside some pages I use it on I also developed components for it. The biggest project is a webhosting component (http://www.wh-com.de). First developed for own needs I published it under the GNU GPL later. Today small webhosting providers all over the world use it. That's a very great experience for me and shows me the brilliancy of Open Source. Now I'm working on a completly new component for ISPs for Joomla 1.5.

In this task I work on a module for the IM service MeeboMe. It allows the customer to contact the page owner directly on the page via Instant Messaging. (Task at Google)

A first version (1.0) of the module is ready and I attach it here. The only settings you can set in the module configuration are the Widget-ID, the height and the width. More parameters the widget don't support I think. But I will have a closer look on that. If anyone knows about more paremeters please inform me!
The only thing the module does is to insert the parameters in the meebome-code. If the Widget-ID is empty the module raises a notice. Included are language files for German and English.

Feel free to use it to contact me!

Jonas! I am so sorry I did not see this was complete! I know we talked via IM - but I thought this was just your "Hello!" post. I will try very hard to get it reviewed ASAP. My sincere apologies.  :P

OK, Jonas, how do I get this to work? The install worked great! I specified AmyStephen as my Widget-ID, but, no where was I asked to logon - so, how do I do that?

Unfortunatly it's not that easy.

1. Go to http://www.meebome.com/
2. Use the guide to make the settings for your meebome widget. The size setting will be overwritten by the module. Click on the "Next" button when you are ready.
3. Register a new meebo account or sign in your existing account.
4. Copy the code shown in the box to any text editor.
5. Copy the widget ID. It's read marked in the following example.
This is the widget ID you have to put in the module settings!

You can use the example widget ID to test the module. It's a nice way to contact me ;)

I think there isn't any possibility to let the module create a widget ID. The only idea I have is to let the user put the whole widget code into the modules configuration and the module will filter the widget ID automatically. Would that be better?

Man - that was A LOT easier than I tried to make it!!  :-*

That will be very nice for people - especially in a support role - to communicate with others "behind the webpage."

Box it up - it works great and the code looks very good (no surprise from you!)

Once you post your extension to Google, I will finalize the task. We *might* add additional tasks next weekend, we have about 20 really create coding tasks that would be super extensions to have available. If we do, we will update the coding tasks available in the stickies - so - click the notify if you want updates!

Task accepted as complete. Thanks very very much for your (continued) contributions to Joomla!,
Amy :)

I just uploaded the final version 1.1 to the google task.
I only made some corrections in the language strings and some other small things.

Furthermore I created a small documentation about the module:

Again many thanks for your engagement, Amy!

You can get the module from here or from any extension portal which provides the latest version (currently 1.1).
