I will be writing a small document on how to modify the original Joomla template.

Administrator. Explain how to make each of these modifications to Joomla!'s
default Milkyway Template using step by step instructions:

    * Change the Color Variation of the Template.
    * Change the Background Variation of the Template.
    * Change the Template Width.
    * Change the Header Image.
    * Change the favicon.
    * Remove the "Powered by Joomla!" link at the bottom of the page.

Documentation written for this task must be made available under the
Joomla! Electronic Documentation License.

Skills Needed
Ability to install XAMPP, download and install Joomla! on a localhost using
default data. Ability to review software and identify features. Good Open
Office Writer and communication skills.

Difficulty
Moderate.

Work Product
Attractive, correctly written explanation. Use logo and color scheme.

Extra Credit (optional)
Provide a brief explanation why it is helpful to the Joomla! project to
keep the Powered by Joomla! link and encourage them community member to
display it proudly!

Show how to create an image to replace the header image using Gimp.

Anyone know where the width of the template is defined in the style sheet? I added a width: 100%; to the body section, and it didn't affect it....

edit: and another question. On the page it says include how to remove the copyright. Should I just put how to remove the footer from the html? Because the footer is in /includes, and they'd have to FTP for that, which I was trying to avoid, for simplicity...

I think it looks great.  You may want to use the complete Joomla! logo instead of just using the flower-like thing and writing "Joomla!" after it.

You also might want to show screenshots and/or "it should now say this" sections to it.  Another thing to consider would be to call "coding" something less scary.  I know you say

Don't freak out about the coding. It's really easy, and you should have no problems, if
you follow this tutorial correctly.

but people will just freak out when they read this.

This is a good start!

Hi Ricky -

Thanks so much for selecting a Joomla! task for the GHOP contest.

My grandfather was a Ham Radio operator - and many a night, I sat on his lap while he talked to people all over the world - people with funny accents - and interesting stories. He would have loved the Internet, I think.

Your guide is well written, Ricky, but, it's not on the Joomla! v 1.5 template. You could certainly include the v 1.0.x instructions for extra credit - but the new release is what we are interested in - and what the installation instructions on the Google Task page call for.

Hopefully, having done one already, it will speed your progress.

Again, I thank you for joining the contest. As new people come into Joomla! v 1.5, they will appreciate these instructions, very much.

Umm, it doesnt say that on the page, just says milkyway template, and I didn't know what that was... *sigh*

Milkyway is the default template for Joomla! v 1.5.

Plus, the installation instructions are for v 1.5.

Like I said, it was. The template was named and the instructions were clearly for Joomla! v 1.5. Furthermore, in the day you have been working on the project, you could have asked for any clarification required.

Slow down. Make certain you know what is expected of you. Ask questions for clarification. Don't make assumptions.
