017 - Create a unit test plan for the Article Manager

Hi,

The description of the (third) task I claimed:
Description
Create a unit test plan that identifies at least 25 specific tests and
expected results that could be used to validate Joomla! v 1.5 development.
The test plan should specifically list each action that would be taken by a
tester and the expected results. A tester should be able to use the
document to verify the accuracy of the Joomla! development.

Possible information resources:
    * Wikipedia Test Case

Skills Needed
    * Good Analytical Skill.
    * Good Open Office Writer and communication skills.

Difficulty
Simple.

Work Product
Easy to follow test plan developed in Open Office Writer.

Licensing
Documentation written for this task must be made available under the
Joomla! Electronic Documentation License.

Extra Credit (Optional)
50 specific tests.

Time Limit
2 weeks.

Task claimed: Tuesday 18th of december 2007
Task due: Monday 31st of december 2007

I'll be gone the 28th of december, so I'll be sure it will be finished before that date.
I'll send in my drafts, not like the translation-tasks with only the completed and checked one.
This is because Joomla! members can help me out better then the tasks in Dutch language I suppose ;)

I looked at the unit test plans which are already finished, so I know approximately what you expect from me.

One question to start off with:
Where can I find that 'Wikipedia Test Case'?

Greetings,
Marieke

Marieke -

First of all, thank you for selecting yet another task for the Joomla! community.

The Wikipedia Test Case was a link to an explanation for contestants. But, NONE of our task links copied over into the Google Issue page. We created a page on the wiki with all of the links, but most people (of course) don't know the page is there.  :P

*heavy sigh*

I am pleased you will be interacting with us - it will give us all a chance to get to know one another. You are a very well respected person in the Dutch Joomla! community - time for some International fame and attention!

Please do ask questions as you have them. Sometimes, response time is not very good. For that, I apologize. We are a bit short handed with RC 4 coming out - and so many things going on at one time.

Looking forward to seeing your work!
Amy :)

Thanks :)

I'm happy with the release of RC4! But I'll not translate the blog about RC4. Someone from the DutchJoomla community already summarized it.
Yesterday a bit busy with testing Dutch translations of RC4 (from DutchJoomla), that's why my response is one day later then expected.

Just completed I think half of the unit test plan. This part is about the 11 buttons at the top right of the article manager. .pdf and .odt files have been added as attachments

Number of actions descriped: 11
Number of sub-actions descriped: 15
Number of child-actions descriped: 2
Total actions descriped: 28

Is this the correct way I describe the different actions?
Do you have any comments? Please let me know :)

Next to follow are the options within the list.

Marieke

Hopefully some one can have a look to it :)

Looking forward to a reply,
Marieke

It is very difficult to believe you are 15. You do amazing work! That is a very precise, detailed, easy to follow testing guide.

I accept this task, as complete. I will see if another judge can review this work.

Thank you, again and again, for your contributions to the Joomla! community.
Amy :)

Very nice work!

My only real comment is that in the sentences like this:

Note: You will receive errors when you didn't typed in a title for the article, didn't choose a section or didn't enter some text in the text area.

"Typed" should be changed to "type."

Please go ahead and upload to Google.

Final version uploaded to Google.
(mmmmm..shall I claim another task.. time enough I think - I think I'll just do it :P)

Hi Marieke,

Looking at your work a bit late, but it looks very good. The only thing I would have done is to setup two chapters and number the sections(pargraphs) according to the chapter number.
For instance:
Chapter 1 would be: Buttons at the right
The paragraphs would than number: 1.1 Unarchive an article
                                                    1.2 Archive an article
                                                  etc.
Chapter 2 would be: Functions within the list
The paragraphs would than number: 2.1 Filter
                                                  2.2 Sort by Column
                                                  etc.

If you number them through, it looks like all paragraphs belong to the same chapter.

Just a thought taken from writing documents in the past of my career :)

Marieke,

(I've also PMed this to you)

Congratulations on your excellent test plan, and thankyou for contributing to Joomla! I noticed you've written quite a few unit test plans as part of GHOP :)

I'm doing some research on user-based unit testing in Joomla, and was wondering if I could ask you a couple of questions. My aim is to gather input from people involved in the unit testing and develop an application to assist in the operation of this unit testing.

If you have a spare moment, could you please email me at draicone (at) gmail (dot) com? I'll send you a list of three or four questions, they shouldn't take more than 5 minutes of your time to complete.

Thanks!

Draicone

(Edited to fix a slight mistake in thread)
