Soccer Site

Hello everyone,
I am very much a novice with website design and creation (no background whatsoever), but I'm having a blast learning to use Joomla. We had a very dull html version of this soccer site and decided that it was going to eventually be too large to handle without a CMS. We found a really helpful and skilled designer to help us with the design and implementation and this is where we are at the current moment:

I would really appreciate any feedback you can give me. Certainly don't limit it to these items, but just a few I could think of:
Initial impression
Anything positive or negative jump out at you?
Are the fonts and menus sufficient?
Are there any additional extensions that you feel could be useful to a site of this type? (there are so many, and to someone who doesn't know anything about the possibilities, it's a bit daunting)
If it was your site, what would you do to change it or add to it?

This is a great resource and I thank you all in advance for your time. It's a fear of mine that there's something I should know about Joomla that I just couldn't or wouldn't know with my current level of knowledge.

I think is a clean design, not all websites should be too flashy or very eye catchy to be successful on the web, by the way on the latest pictures, that guy with the face on the ball or the ball in the face on the guy, is seems like kind of hurt a little
