Just wanted to note that the Poll on logos will most likely be confusing to U.S. residents.

We don't vote for things, we vote against things. For instance, no one voted for Bush or Kerry in the presidential election, they voted against Bush or Kerry (thereby "voting" for the other candidate.)

Will the voting eventually be culled to two top-runners, so us folks from the U.S. can simply vote against the logo we hate?

I'm just afraid the process will be confusing for us.

IMHO whan can be more simple that voting one out of five candidate rather than voting 4 that we dont like? confusing :-\

Well that's easy for you to say - you have a light saber, and therefore the force is always with you.

For me, it's just a "tongue in cheek" way of pointing out that most of us U.S. residents like me were confused by the process.

Hopefully the logo poll will allow us to properly segregate ourselves into Red and Blue Joomla factions.

As a Joomla liberal, it's important for me to know what choice the Joomla conservatives are making (the Fish most likely, given the possible religious connotations), so that I know to hate it and vote against it.

Also, given I can't see the poll results on a running basis, I don't know who to point the finger at for biased logo coverage.

Just saying this is not a proper way to hold a vote, based on U.S. standards.

And given we are the reigning superpower, I'd expect that you folks would fall in line. We've come to expect that - or label you as "terrorists".

In fact, I'm notifying the Homeland Security Department concerning your light saber. It's already bad enough you're not white - you're in big trouble, mister.

:)
perhaps you can join the discussion on http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,5958.0.html
I think its more democratic this way, as you can be active on the subject.

I think the logo that was chosen present a unique concept in each. And I think there are other reason, such as legality and trademark against other existing logo

IMHO one of the thing with closed result is you have more honest judgement by the poeple that voted. We can avoid jugment based oh hype. this way 1 vote realy does matter

Fortunately this is not about US standards....
I agree in most countries ppl vote FOR something they believe in. Everything else is..  err ....based on US standards....  :P
[prepost edit:] deleted more cynical comments about the worlds No1 superpower...  8)

Stingray, maybe you should put a "how to punch ballots the correctly" description into the logo post ... otherwise we may get Bush as a result....

Yes, can we put a group in place immediately to deal with the hanging chads? I don't wanna see this get too nasty.

I'm also EXTREMELY concerned that this "internet" voting excludes the underprivileged - many who do not have access to a computer. Will Open Source Matters be "reaching out" to these voters? Also, at least in my state, it is illegal to sell alcoholic beverages on voting days - so that the druggies and alcoholics can exercise their rights. Have you guys contacted the convenience stores about this problem?

As a member of the world's most successful democracy that makes all other countries look like despot states in comparison, I just feel that NOT respecting our mode of democratic voting - the most EXCELLENT system in the world, that provides world leaders like GW Bush - presents a serious problem here.

Also, not actually upset - but, if I were moderator, the name "Joomla!" would have never made it out of the humor section :P But it does suck to have a fun topic being moved to a basically "dead" forum - might as well delete it.

Naah, we shouldn't delete it
it has content And humor. Makes a good discussion, rather than a discussion that would lead to a political slugfest  :)

I didn't intend this to turn nasty, but I shook my head when reading it wondering whether you were serious or trying to be smart.
Obviously you were serious at the beginning , but no reason all of a sudden to trash the shortlist.

But I think that Stingrays 2nd rule. "Every member may vote once (1) for their favourite logo." is clear as for this vote. No matter what you are used from home...

I just couldn't take it as a serious request - no intention to offend or gag your intentions...

bah again and again and again - as for the above quote, it was intended sarcastically.

no more sarcasm on the forum from me - promise.

sorry, but it started out as a joke then quickly became retarded.

I enjoyed your sarcasm! And once it got moved in here and you got on about that, I was thinking of bringing up the whole issue of the US sense of humour, which must be superior to other forms of humour, and perhaps we should standardize and codify it... only I didn't feel nearly as clever as you were being, so I left it alone.  :-[

It's okay - no one can possibly be as clever as me.

But since I got "banned" to the humor forum for that one, I decided to get my payback another way:

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,6132.0.html

I consulted the U.S. Humor guide - and it stipulates that everyone with ugly mugshots of themselves have all of their posts automatically moved to the humor forum. Except most of the time it's not so funny, as downright frightening.

Now I'm done goofing on folks - got work to do.

Hey, look at me, I'm the clever guy on Joomla! forums. Somebody give me the "Funniest Poster at Joomla" award - except maybe I wouldn't win, and how humiliating would that be? Hahahaha - oh, I kill myself. Not.

But in my defense, I did try to have the post removed after I saw where it was going.

Well, I'm not sure whether I prefer the U.S. Humor guide or the U.K. Humour guide (as a Canadian, I enjoy dual humourship), which states that images depicting hot beverages with stimulant properties, are only permitted during the hours between 20:00 and 08:00 (local time) for purposes of reminding readers that said beverages may assist in their being able to stay here and read longer rather than go to bed. At all other times, such images are considered blatant promotion of addictive substances which may lead to jitteriness and ill-advised forum posts.

Now, I'm off to Starbucks - want anything?
