[Solved]

Hi,

I am very new to Joomla and I am not from a technical background, yet I have foolishly accepted to develop a new web site for a charity. :'(

Anyway the site is getting there now but I cannot seem to get my head around this logo issue.

I'm using Joomla 1.5.6
JA_Purity 1.1.3 (the later version I originally used had issues with the top menu)

I changed the CSS to increase the size of the logo and I created my own logo, saved it under header1, 2 and 3, everything worked fine.

However, it was pointed out to me that the logo was not quite right, so I have corrected the garphic, saved it under header1.jpg, 2 and 3 as before, and replaced the existing jpg files with the new ones, but now it just shows both logos!!! See http://www.adana.es/newsite/.

I tried to find various work arounds, including setting up a new directory and making the system point to the new location, but to no avail (probably because I didn't change the right file).

I also looked in the CSS file to see if there was anything there, but no joy. I looked through the various forums to try and find a solution but nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You have two logos because the logo position is on the left side of the header area and the header JPG files are supposed to be background on the right hand side.

I assume that you want the logo to appear in the left hand side. Just delete the three files header1.jpg, header2.jpg and header3.jpg. That should eliminate them from the display.

Thanks Phil for your response.

I did try deleting the header jpgs. I have even tried leaving the header directory completely empty, but even then, the old logo remains!!!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "You have two logos because the logo position is on the left side of the header area and the header JPG files are supposed to be background on the right hand side."

Sorry if these are really basic questions, but I just don't get it. :-(

You currently have a header file at http://www.adana.es/newsite/templates/ja_purity/images/header/header1.jpg which is one of the three header images. That file looks like this:
Attachment:
head1.jpg

You must delete the three header files in that directory or else you will continue to have the right hand side logo.

Of course, that is the first thing I tried. The problem is that the old logo stays there even if I delete EVERYTHING in the header directory.

Just to illustrate my point, I have now deleted everything in the header directory, and yet that logo is still there! OK, so now there is only ONE logo but it's the wrong one.

Why is the old logo still showing on the site even after I have deleted it from the header directory?

Having reread this with a fresh pair of eyes I think I understand what you mean now.
If I understand correctly what you're saying, the header directory is the wrong place to put the logo if I want it to be on the left hand-side?

I am sure this was the place I put the original logo though, and it did go on the LHS, but then again it was several weeks ago.

So, if the header directory is the wrong place to put my logo, where should I put it in order for it to go to the LHS?

For some reason I was convinced that I had put the logo in the header files!!!!

Pretty dumb for a first post, hey? ;-)

Thanks for your help Phil, it put me on the right track.

Congratulations. You are on your way. It's good to see others in the volunteer charity work, and I don't think you are foolish at all. I started using Joomla! a little over a year ago, and since then I have designed and am maintaining about 15 non profit sites. My first one was a dog and cat shelter.

I use and recommend Firefox's Firebug and WebDeveloper extensions to analyze web sites.
Please mark your first post [Solved], and happy developing.

Phil

I was not sure how to mark it solved so I have just inserted '[Solved]' on my first post.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. What a coincidence that your first site should be for an animal charity too!

I have to say that I am (probably naïvely) amazed at what you can do with Joomla without any programming skills, and I have probably only scratched the surface yet!
