Error 404 without index.php included in URL
I'm having an issue with urls's not working unless index.php is included in the URL - i.e. http://www.site.com/products returns 404 error but http://www.site.com/index.php/products works fine.
I'm running windows 2003/IIS 6, php 5.2.9.1, MySQL 5.1.32 and Joomla 1.5.9.
I've read about enabled SEF url's causing this issue but I get the same error with SEF url's off or on.
Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Re: Error 404 without index.php included in URL
I'm getting the same problem with my new Joomla installation. Running Linux 2.6.18-028stab057.4, php 5.0.4-10.5.1.swsoft , MySQL 4.1.20-1.FC4.1 and Joomla 1.5.10.
I also had SEF enabled briefly, but I get the error whether its on or off.

Re: Error 404 without index.php included in URL
Its because you dont have the 'home' menuitem set as default.
If you have multiple menus set in your website and change the default menuitem, joomla gets mixed up and wont be able to redirect you.
So all you need to do is go to your mainmenu, tick the 'home' menuitem and make it Default.
That fixed my problem anyway?

That fixes my problem on the homepage being

Your Problem is default-document configuration. Please configure index.php and move this entry on first position.

Re: Error 404 without index.php included in URL
Thank you. I actually found that my .htaccess file was empty. It came from the Joomla! installation provided by netfirms (and no htaccess.txt file). So I copied in the .htaccess file contents listed in the Artio SEF documentation (even though I'm not using Artio yet) and it fixed the problem.

Also, it appears Joomla is sensitive to the casing of your default document. Make sure it's listed as "index.php" not "Index.php".

Re: Error 404 without index.php included in URL
Hey Goodgirlsx,
I was having this same problem, my home page would load fine, but clicking any link to another page returned the 404 error. From what I've found on the forums here there could be many reasons causing this issue for you. What I finally found on my site was that I had enabled URL re-writing in the Global Configuration. There are some specific stipulations required for this setting to be enabled. I just clicked "no" to disable it, and now my site seems to be working just fine.
Hope that helps.
