I've never had this issue before, and it was funny at first. Not so much anymore.

I am reinstalling Joomla (server woes, but that's aside the point). I go through the nice little web install, and get to the point where it tells me to delete the installation directory. I do so and move on . . . to a 404 error. I put the installation directory back, and start over again. This time, when it says to delete it, I just click on the "Admin" button . . . and it drops me back in at the start of the install.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Latest PHP, latest Joomla, latest MySql, on IIS7

I suspect that you left your original configuration.php in place. Try removing that and reinstall.

I thought that too, except that this is after the server has been formatted. There was no configuration in place, and it seems the installer was refusing to put one in!

I copied over my old configuration.php from my old site (just to see what'd happen), and it worked. However, I'm getting loads of errors, so I took it back out again.

Still sitting here at step one!

Hi,

Best guess is that the web site doesn't have write access to the Joomla configuration file. We've got a write-up on getting Joomla working in this configuration here:

http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/527/joomla-on-iis/

I'll check back to see if this helped, or you can message me directly to debug this.

I experienced similar problems installing J1.5.8 on Windows IIS. I see in the above link that you need to create a configuration.php file before you start (or perhaps rename configuration.php-dist). I found (twice) I got to the end of the installation process, deleted the Installation directory as instructed, clicked on either Site or Admin and went to an error (I think it was a 404 - can't quite remember). I then discovered there was no config file at all and had to manually create it.

The above link explains a good few things! Perhaps ISPs should be made aware to save customers problems?

Meant is in the main site structure the installation-folder of Joomla....nothing to do with your template folder. That folder you find in the root directory where all your folders are located. That needs to be removed

Hi Leolam,

thanks for your response, but I dont think you understand me... The template is yet to be installed and its says I should that installation folder and anytime I remove the folder, it and try to run it, it says cannot connect to database.

I know I am supposed to remove the folder after installation it does not even install at all.
I hope you understand my issue now.

Thanks for your response.

hi elgaxton,
i strongly feel that permission of user in server changes.can you check the owner permission?
you need to run chown command first and than reinstall the joomla.
please check that the owner of joomla folder is not root or any other user.

regards
Abhijeet

Hi Kurchania,
Thanks for your response, my major challenge is that I have not been able to install it because of the "Remove Installation Directory". This occurs when I want to install it.

Secondly, I am running it on my local system not on the web.

Ok all clear now it seems..You have not yet run the installation procedure did you?

i.e. when you go to your website and you type in your browser http://www.yoursite.com it will automatically open the installer for you and you follow the steps outlined here: http://help.joomla.org/content/category/48/268/302/

Thanks Leo again,
The point is this; When I type my http://www.mysite.com it automatically shows
"Installation finished, please remove installation directory" and this happens
without any installation done at all.

So this is my issue.

Thanks again

hi elgaxton,
generally the database prefix is jos_.its the table starting name.
for example jos_users.
but generally we change the prefix.check this value in configuration.php
var $dbprefix = 'jos_';

see now to debug i need few more information
1.check the database exist in phpmyadmin.
2.check the table of database.
3.do a simple mysql_connect program in php and run it from your wamp.

hi,
can you check this 2 things
var $user = 'iws4ng_munish';
var $password = 'intenso123';
$user should be root
$password should be blank.
did you create this user using mysql ?
create one file
test.php
write
mysql_connect("localhost","iws4ng_munish","intenso123");
run that file.tell me if its working or not?

Regards
Abhijeet

Hi Kurch,
I tested the file test file and it dint work so I used my normal password and root for user and test file worked.

When I change the details in the config to root as user and mypass it still said:
Quote:
PLEASE REMEMBER TO COMPLETELY
REMOVE THE INSTALLATION DIRECTORY.
You will not be able to proceed beyond this point until the installation directory has been removed. This is a security feature of Joomla!.
Click here when the directory has been removed
.

Here 's the link to the joomla template.

Code:
http://hotfile.com/dl/78871499/aa3a5a6/architecture-.zip.html

You can download and tell me how far...

Thanks for all you effort in trying to help me.
You are highly appreciated.

Yo

hi elgaxton,
we are very close now.
again rename your installation to installation1.
in your configuration.php you fine this 2 line
var $user = 'iws4ng_munish';
var $password = 'intenso123';
change them to
var $user = 'root';
var $password = '';
if you have any password of root use that .

check this also:-

Hello Kurch,

Thanks for all your efforts, I have tried all the things prescribed here before I even visited this thread.
At the moment, after changing the details of the database, the wampserver just wouldn't load at all.

You can download the template and see for yourself.

Hi everybody

did you ever find a solution to the problem?

i am currently in a similar situation.

- I install Joomla
- i add the configuration.php file that was not installed (code given by the 1.7.3 joomla installation )
- i am asked to delete the installation directory
- i delete the installation directory
- joomla gives : HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

I upload the installation directory again and Joomla is accessible ... but asks me to delete the installation directory

i am in a dead end - please give me your advice!
thank you!

Your link
http://hotfile.com/dl/78871499/aa3a5a6/ ... -.zip.html
Returns a this "This file is either removed due to copyright claim or is deleted by the uploader."
Where did the template come from and you don't need to unzip the template zip file to install it. In fact you can't install it that way!
