Hi

Does anyone know how to get ranking in BING, but here is the thing if I set up the seo for BING would it effect google ranking?

I have a site (actully not a joomla site) but that has nothing to do with it, that is ranked well in Google, but bing nothing, so it is way they view how a site is indexed and criteria,

Bing has a webmaster site but is not clear on how ranking is done,
but if you set right for one will the other be effected?

cheers

I think is No because Google and Bing is different search engine, different algorithm for index / crawl site.

Google and Bing does not the same engine for sure. The algorithm of indexing for Bing is definitely different from Google. So when Google's SERP for a website found high, but Bing viceversa.

Bing does not weigh trust as much as google.

You can get to top of bing from low quality links, but not google

Wow! Lots of dis(mis)-information here!

Bing Yahoo and Google search engine algorithms are very much different. Some of their results many not be much different. It really depends on the keyword space.

Bing just went through a significant infrastructure change and crawls the web much more frequently now. True, several months ago, they were slow to crawl and there index is somewhere in the 30 billion pages (I think I have the decimal place right). I believe Yahoo's index is a little more. Google's index is about 100+ billion pages with more than 100,000 new pages added daily.

Disclaimer: the above information is not current so don't go to the bank with these index size values. But the order of magnitudes are correct (to the best of my knowledge).

Algorithm types:
Bing uses a Neural and Adaptive System process (according to their early white papers). Google uses more of a filter process. Yahoo is based on the older inktomi engine they purchased about 5+ years ago.

Here is what you need to know. In a Neural net process (BING), engineers manually determine "golden standard" website pages. The Neural net process compares how close a page is to the "golden standard". The processes used are similar to some pattern matching algorithms. BING can tweak their algo by applying extra weight to any portion of the algorithm. For example, BING (at least in its early days) did not like long pages because they mimicked ebook and affiliate marketing pages.

Google's algorithm is not so much a Neural net as it is more of a classic ranking algorithm with lots of weight on type/quality/number/etc. of backlinks. Google claims they attain in excess of 300 web page metrics. What makes Google work so well is its filters. They do lots of filtering and profiling of to determine how much value is applied to a specific web element from/on a specific page.

Yahoo is not much of a search engine. It has long been know that Yahoo employs gobs of QC people (at least they use to before the BING/Yahoo deal) that do nothing but rate website for SPAM, likability, usability, etc. YES, Yahoo results (for the more popular and consumer related keywords) are subjectively maneuvered by real people. In fact, yahoo results for the more common terms have been shown to be more relevant than Google. NOTE: I said for popular terms, not all terms. And it is also know that Yahoo will forcibly demote a website after it enjoys between 3-6 months of good ranking. However, after paying Yahoo their extortion money in the form of their "search submit" program, strong rankings return.

So What Should I Do
So after all this, you may be asking: "do I have to optimize differently for Google, Bing and Yahoo". The technical answer is YES. The practical answer is NO. In other words. If you are going after very popular keywords, then you may indeed compromise some rankings in Bing for better rankings in Google. There is no way around it unless you want to try some IP redirecting strategies (black hat). On the other hand, you could optimize one page on your site for Google and another for Bing. But for popular keywords, you only have one home page (make the best of it).

But in reality, most of the differences between optimizing for Bing v.s. Google are not that different to justify all sorts of extra work (and the real differences are not so easy to quantify. There are only a few SEO's who really could tell you what the differences are and they are not about to make their info public). So just use SEO best practices and you will be fine.

Very true, and Bing also is quick to count links as new, and slow to drop them from that count if they are removed. My advice is to learn SEO techniques that please Google, and the other search engines will treat you just fine. Don't try to get too technical in the details, just build good quality links.

Just a note on market share figures. Both Nielson and Stat Counter produce SE market share numbers. But they have very different results.

Here are a few links to some current stats

http://gs.statcounter.com/#search_engin ... 810-200911
http://searchenginewatch.com/2156451
http://marketshare.hitslink.com/search- ... px?qprid=4
http://www.comscore.com/Press_Events/Pr ... e_Rankings

The reason there is such a difference is because market share number are based on unique visitors. But the qualification for what a unique visitor is differs between companies.

Therefore, you have to take each value with a 'grain of salt'.

At the end of the day I think it makes sense to optimize for Google first and then try and fill in your SEO efforts later on for Bing and Yahoo.

I am 100% focused on Google simply because my understanding is that Bing and Yahoo put more empathsis on things like domain age(mine if young, very young).

Securing ranking is Bing is bit tough as far as my knowledge is concerned simply because its search algo is not as effective and as accurate as that of Google. What you have to do is to get some valuable links anyhow. I hope this will work but the same rule will not be applicable for Google as its search algo is better and more accurate than that of Bing.

Altavista, Yahoo, Lycos and Excite the first of these names come to mind right now only Yahoo Lycos and some are able to survive. Since Google was founded at the end of the 90s scene that does not leave anyone. Let's look at what to do Bing.
