Search Engine Friendly URLs problem - htaccess??

hi fellas,

I have a problem with the "Search Engine Friendly URLs" feature in J1.5.

When I turn it on I get lots of problems with Virtuemart etc..

I have been advised that it is a htaccess problem but as yet I haven't been able get things working as they should.

has anyone got any ideas?

I really want the SEF urls

yeah u have to modify the htaccess.txt file rename to .htaccess file and uncomment the sef portion of it that comes with the install . Not the third party portion that is for Open SEF or sh404 or any others out there.
it says right in the file just remove the " # " <<< and its uncommented.
also while your at it check the security section and make sure you do some security with your .htaccess file.

upload in binary using ftp.

also check out sh404 component it works really well.

but make a backup first before u try just in case.

Sorry I should of said.. I have tried the tutorial on setting up sh404 and SEF too.

I have emailed my host (Reseller zoom) last night to see if they can help.

htaccess worked for me, well... for the most part. Virtuemart categories/products don't utilize SEF, but at least the site is functional now. Without .htaccess in use, I wasn't able to view products with SEF enabled.

In sh404 there are settings for Virtuemart but i havent tested it yet but it most likely is just fine .

Yes there seems to be an issue with Virtumart and "Joomla Search Engine Friendly URLs" setting.

With SEO opti off
http://example.com/index.php?option=com ... &Itemid=80

With SEO opti on
http://example.com/store.html?amp;page=shop.browse&category_id=7

The problem is with the substitution of amp; into the URL this causes the URL to fail.... if you change the url manually it will work again.

If anyone has a good solution to this could they put a detailed explanation up please. I'd rather not start hacking things out of my .htaccess which is there for security reasons.
