How can I get SEF URLs for a component ITEM? (external link)

Hi

I have a component that when linked to in the menu manager the URL is fine, its SEF and named after the alias. But to link to specific component item, I have to add an external link, and it just links to that URL and does not insert the alias for it. So I cant SEF the URL for the component item.

Does anyone know how I can get a SEF URL to a component item, or external url?
