how to track events, such as when an image in a gallery has been clicked??

I was successful at adding the GA code to the head tag of my template's index file, and thus tracking page hits. But now I would like to track events.

thanks,

ndelia, thanks for responding.

Do you have a way to add event-tracking? ... say, for instance, that I have a joomla image gallery (module) and I want to track any mousedowns on the images in the gallery ... is there a way to do that?

I guess a module such as a slideshow module would have to expose mouse events in order to handle them ... hmmmm

I have followed the instructions carefully, but I still get the message that google analytics is not installed and it does not show any traffic data.
What could be the problem?

I have put it exactly there, and then also before </body>, but the result is always the same. I get the following message, and no traffic data of course:

Status: Tracking Not Installed
Last checked: Nov 17, 2012 10:20:31 AM PST
The Google Analytics tracking code has not been detected on your website's home page. For Analytics to function, you or your web administrator must add the code to each page of your website.

Why is it so?

Hi Everyone,

I am a bit confused. Google tells us to put the code into a page that we want to track ...... so on my HTML site I put the code on my CONTACT page.

At the top of this post we are told to put the code in the top level ... will this provide accurate tracking or should we rather put the code on the page we would like to track??

I would, for example, like to know exactly how many conversions I have ..... how many customers went on to do an online booking after reading my article(s) ...... I have over 90 articles .... all pointing to and Online Booking page.

I hope someone could shed a little light on this.

It is really a very good share and helps a lot. But can you tell me that my website has already analytic code and now I want to add new code to my website. I did the same step as you above mentioned but I am shocked that I didn't find any analytic code that is already on the website. How can I find the previous code in my website.

NOT: Advanced Google Analytics plugin for Joomla
Our Advanced Google Analytics plugin for Joomla 1.5 and 1.6 makes it easy to add the Google Analytics trackingcode to the website from the administration area of your Joomla website

Besides the basic tracking code our plugin also includes these features:
- Subdomain and multiple domain tracking
- Tracks document downloads like .PDF and .doc automatically
- Tracks mailto links automatically
- Tracks clicks to other websites automatically
- Tracks registered users separately
- You can set AllowsHash and AnonymizeIP functionality
- Includes third party integration functionality for BTBuckets and Visual Website Optimizer
- Change campaign cookie time
- etc.

Code: Select all

I'm resurrecting this thread, because I think there is much more to hash out.

1.
First off, no one answered when @Darisha asked why putting the code at the "top" (template) is the recommended way to install if wanting to track specific pages.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the template IS part of every page, so posting it there is like posting it to every page. Now I'm not sure if this is correct, and I'm not sure if this applies to modules and components, but I think this is how it works.

2.
Secondly, why does the present native Google Analytics script not work when posted to Joomla (2.5), but the script with

Code: Select all

<script type='text/javascript'>
, etc. does?

3.
How do you convert the new script to the other (old?) script with the

Code: Select all

<script type='text/javascript'>
?

Thanks for the help!

I'm assuming that was spam.

But...
I would rather use the new Google Analytics code if it is not overly complicated. I could handle the complication, but I'm hoping/guessing there is an easy solution.

Hi All!

I am trying to add Google Analytics to my website (amionline.org) that was built by a different administrator years ago using Joomla Version 1.5.26. (I tried to update it, but no luck, constant errors.) The problem I'm having is that when I go to "Exensions", there is no "Template Manager" sub-option to access and edit the HTML. If I could get here, I would have no problem installing the analytics, but am just having a tough time finding where to go to get into the edit HTML section. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Looks like your user account doesn't have superadmin rights, just administrator or manager...

If you have phpMyAdmin access to your database then you can create a new superadmin account, see https://docs.joomla.org/How_do_you_reco ... assword%3F

If you have FTP access to the server then you could edit the /templates/your-template/index.php and add the Google Analytics script over there...

Excellent, thank you so much Peter!
