For the nofollow, they don't help you get a good rank.

This statement has been proven false. People have ranked pages using nothing but nofollow links.

The best way is to install a Fire fox plug inn and start searching do follow blog list with that plug in you can check instantly that blog is do follow or not

That is no longer the case, do follow does not stop pagerank from floating anymore, it does have som impact though, you can find several resources for this information if you search for it.

Also linking to good relevant sites can actually improve your serps!

An easy way to find dofollow blogs is to do image search on Google for stuff like ""U Comment, I Follow", there are various other ways of finding dofollow links. But as stated above nofollow links are also usable now! every link count in some degree.
