If your ranking has decreased suddenly, you can try to get more backlinks for your web pages. This is a very important and effective strategy for boosting the rankings of your website. Moreover it is also essential to check the on page optimization of your website. The keywords must be used efficiently in the content of the web pages.

Hi gbrains

Are those 2 site new or old? Domain age are more than 6 months?

I've been doing SEO for one of my sites (2 months old) and I've came to learn something:

I keep tracking my site ranking everyday or every couple of days. I noticed that when I build back links to my website, the ranking drop down for a couple of days then after few days it comes back either as same as before or even better. This is known as: Google Dance. Example: Yesterday Rank : page 4, Today's Rank: page 12-30

this usually happens when you start building back links to your web pages. I used to panic when I see my ranking drop but now I understand that when my ranking drops then it means that Google started to see my backlinks and is re-evaluating my ranking. I believe that it's ok as long as you site still appear on search engine results.

Another thing is that if you have new site, you might get very good ranking at the beginning for the first few weeks of launching your website then your site drop back in ranking and stays there. If this the case then it's time to start SEO for your website.

Try to stop any SEO you're doing right now for about 7-10 days and monitor your site ranking. If it goes back to the previous rank or better then it's Google Dance, continue your SEO (you're doing good job).

Now, get used to Google Dance and don't panic :D Welcome to SEO

LOL Google Dance, love that term. I'm also new with SEO and sometime it make me spent more time building my backlink rather then crafting my next post.

You have to do both, increase your website authority by increasing the size of your website through adding unique content frequently and then keep building quality back links to your web pages.

Usually most people fail with SEO cause they think it's magic while it need hard work and long time to see results. You should expect to get results some where between 6 months to one years. You have to be patient.

You definitely need to focus on updating content. If you have a blog, try adding more content frequently that links to your specific page with keyphrases you're targeting.

I had the same problem, and my site hasn't recovered yet. It's still indexed but appears on a positions after 100 :). You should read Google's webmaster guidlines and try to stick with them. Here they are: google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769&&hl=en

Hi,

Google updated their algorithm a few days ago.
It's called Google Penguin Update, targeting low quality content, and links.

Please look here for Google Penguin Update details, recovery, tips and advice.
Rand Fishkin, CEO at SEOmoz, also makes some good points in this video about SEO and over-optimization penalties.

Best wishes,
Trond

Its hard to keep track of what is considered good SEO and what is considered bad practice nowadays.

As everyone has done at some point i imagine i spent a lot of time putting our sites into every single free directory i could find and one or two paid directories (yahoo, botw etc)

Now i place little importance on it and try to update the site regularly.. as others have mentioned google seem to be targetting mass link building now.

There may be two reasons behind the this
the premium reason is may be some of your existing backlinks have been deleted or may be the sites that took the first 7 positions now have more quality backlinks than yours.
you should hire back links on your website and also make social book marking for your website to get again high page ranking

There are 2 updates, first is Penguin in the end of April, second is Penguin update 1.1 in the end of May. These two updates hit different areas of SEO.

Google is looking at websites in a little different way now. They are trying to make it more user friendly. Content of your website must be one of the first things, a visitor sees at your site. ex.

If a customer searches for a portraitphotographer and reaches your site. Content must apply to the initial search keywords, within first display frame. It should not be placed so that the visitor must scroll. Huge ads in header is also a no go now. A Wordpress blog is in a little trouble because of the big header images, and therefor the need to be thoroughly ALT tagged, to try to come around this issue.

im working on seo in last years.
grbrain in this time please check wich reasone is active on your sites:
in google webmaster google added you a message about google pnalty.
2-if you tryed to make spam page automatically made page for each tag.
3-if contents are same as old site therefor your site is mirror of it.
4-increase 404 errors that you can found if it is true in google webmaster > crawl errors.
5-check robots.txt maybe disallowed all pages. test with google fetch as google webmaster tools.
6-check header status with live header extension of firefox
7-check tag html robots maybe hacker changed it or joomla made it to noindex
8-you clicked more than normal case on your link in google results.
9-meta tag html refresh page or redirect to other page or openning popup.
10-you shown different content to robots with normal users. some programmers use header or function to determind robots with others to made different content to better seo content but google see it as spam or pnalty.
.....
please send me urls.

first of all you should check your content in google & see how much duplication over there...

you content is been adopted from other site....
see your page 2nd & 3rd paregraph.... as well rest of content ( i have not checked it totally)

first of all change all duplicate content
now the second one is you must have work on your off page activities...
"every body is lossing links" because of we see the panda & penguine update...

now customized your links & see how much your links to your site...
& create quality & stong link building...
That will helpful to you...

Thanks,

It seems under-optimisation is the new seo optimisation LOL!
Try not to worry too much about getting your content optimised to the last bit ie keywords in H1 , H2, H3, bold text etc but instead concentrate on the quality of the content.

This is an interesting evolution Google is making away from low quality links. If you have questionable links Google is now penalizing you. But 5 years ago, if you didn't have questionable links you probably weren't ranking in Google.

It could be an effect of the new Panda algorithm or the lack of content on your site. Try to add quality content regularly and your site will recover.
