hi, i have had my sh404sef now for about two years but i am not happy now with the settings. for example http://www.in2town.co.uk/benidorm/benidorm-news/benidorm-holidaymakers-celebrate-getting-more-for-their-pound-with-the-euro

the above has the category and the section in the url which is not good for seo and google

i would like to take out the category and keep the section but i am not sure if this is possible now. I am thinking if i change the settings then all my other urls will be affected and will not work.

can anyone please let me know if it is possible to change the settings of my sh404sef component

You can certainly change the settings in sh404SEF to exclude the category and/or sections from the urls.

The problem is that Google and other websites may be aware of the current urls and when you change the settings, these will cease to exist. sh404SEF allows you to add "aliases" so that you can redirect the old urls to the new urls. You may find the "Crawl Errors" report in Google Webmaster Tools useful in tracking down any urls you have missed creating an alias for. This is straightforward if your website does not have too many pages but not a trivial tasks of you have thousands of pages.

You might also like to factor into your url strategy that there are no "sections" but only "categories" in Joomla 2.5 so plan so that your urls won't have to change again when you migrate to Joomla 2.5 or later.

Neil.

Hi,

I have some websites that work fine with sh404SEF and JComments. Are you using the latest versions?

If problems persist, you can try a different handler for JComments in the sh404SEF configuration.
