Joomla User Group in Ohio

Post by JUNOhio » Tue Feb 16, 2010 4:00 am

Hello,

I have been trying for more than 4 months to submit an application for a registered Joomla User Group. I have consistently received error messages when I submit an application, and I have no idea whether my application was successfully submitted or not.

I have several interested developers, clients and users, as well as companies that will sponsor the meetings for Joomla in the Ohio area. While they are interested, they do not deem my efforts as credible because I am not listed as a registered Joomla User Group.

I am willing to invest time, money and resources to help grow the Joomla community in Ohio, but I'm not sure if anyone involved with the Joomla Project is willing to invest a bit of communication with me. I have also volunteered to assist with processing Joomla user group applications, but I have received no response. I thought that open source projects like Joomla welcomed the efforts of persons willing to help with making the project better - am I mistaken?

Maybe I am missing something, or maybe I am not in the right Joomla "circles". I would like for someone to respond to my requests for information.

Thank you,

R.L. Weakley

JUNOhio, I'd very much like to become a part of a local Joomla user group. I'm in the Cleveland area. If any progress has been made, please let me know. If there is something you might need help w/ getting things off the ground, also let me know.

Thanks, Mike

We've been waiting for over a year to get registered and are approved. We are trying to open a Central Ohio chapter. Let me know if you are interested in collaborating in some way.

We are actually registered under the JUG account of name Joomla Ohio. We received several emails from OSM saying that our logo/trademark had been approved and that we were set up. But I don't know what holding it up. Can you look into it. Our e-mail is [email protected] if this helps.

Also received this message on March 14th.
I'm happy to let you know that the Ohio has been approved for registration. I'll be adding you to the google group for JUG contacts. You will be able to download the Registered User Group sticker once you are in the Google Group. I will also add you to the calendar so you can list meetings.
We're not a in the Google Group last time I checked and I'd like to get added to the Joomla Community if they're different. Kinda lost here. Thanks!

Quick question: JoomlaOhio.com shows to be a company site rather than a user group site. Do you have a user group site, google group, online meetup, or people.joomla.org group to which we can point the link for your group?

I've just created a user group on the people.joomla.org site, I'm waiting for it to be moderated at this point, once it's gone through the process I'll drop the URL out here. We will also setting up on joomlaohio.org, we will post it the JUG Group once finalized.

Thanks, I just tried to join the JUG Contact Group and it says I don't have permission even using your invite! I am using [email protected] as the account.

Did you create a google account for that email first? Or associate it with an existing google account that you might have?

I created the google account first. I haven't associated it with any account. I clicked on the invite and it gives me no access.

With your Google account, you always log in using an email address. You can associate multiple email addresses with your account. In order to join the Joomla User Contacts group or use the calendar, you must log into Google using the info email account for your joomlaohio.com domain because that is the address we invited. If you want to use a different email address, we must invite that address but you must log into Google with that address in order to join.

Does that make any sense?

Yes, of course. What I'm saying is is that the invite was sent to [email protected]. I am trying to accept the invite and it still will not let me accept.
You cannot view the group's content or participate in the group because you are not currently a member. Membership is invite only.
If you'd like to send it again to the same registered address then I will try again. This address is a registered google account.

I can resend. Even though you receive the invitation notification, you will still need to join the group in order to participate.

I attempted to complete the Joomla User Group application at least five times since November 2009. I have received two emails from Elin Waring saying that my application had been received, but they were extremely slow in processing applications.
It's been more than SEVEN MONTHS and I've heard nothing, yet there are other user groups that have been approved - what is my next step? Who do I need to talk to for this to be resolved?

I get the feeling that having a Joomla User Group and promoting the usage of Joomla is not of much concern to Open Source Matters...this whole process has been very disappointing, and I will not invest in building a Joomla organization nor promote Joomla if I cannot get an answer to a simple non-technical issue such as this.

I'm sorry you feel that way.

You should have recived notice that your group has been added to the listing of user groups at http://community.joomla.org/user-groups.html

Another invitation has been sent to your info address as well as to your gmail address. Once you go to the Google group (logged in as the invited email address) you will need to join the group or it sometimes says apply for membership in the column to the right.

The Google Group is the mailing list for JUG contacts and also has various files of value to the user group including the official registered user group badge.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Did you ever get logged into the google group? If you were logged into google with the right account, clicking the invitation link should automatically have added you to the group.

i think that is the cause of a lot of peoples problems, you ned to create a google acount before it will let you in. then the registration has to be sent to a proper google/gmail/googlemail account.. unlike the old days!
