I just submitted my listing, it all went smoothly and is very straight forward. My only comment would be that given this is an international directory it might make it more user friendly to offer a prominent country filter, to allow people to quickly find services in their country.

Its probably not going to be an issue at the launch, but I imagine as the directory grows in size the number of lisings in each category could get overwhelming.

Of course people could just use the search function, but it seems to me many people dont think to use this when they are browsing a site.

Thanks for the great work guys.

I got a feeling that I will be able to upload two images. If I edit my listing details, there is a possibility to sort images. It is just that I can't find a way to add this second image.

Do I miss something here?
As of right now only 1 image

Hey, just submitted my listing. Everything went nice and smoothly. Just a couple of suggestions. I would suggest putting up an option to filter by country. I think you covered almost every category. I really saw no problem with the site at all. Although, I would suggest making the categories menu in the sidebar visible on the frontpage. Right now it only comes up when I enter in one of the categories. It makes it easier because in order to view the categories, you have to scroll down a bit. Not like this is some enormous task, but usability is everything!

That sounds good. It wasn't a big issue for me at least. I just recently thought of some other features that would be nice to have. First, I know there is a comment system, but how about also including a way to rate each company like the JED? And it would be great if there was a type of tutorial guiding people through the submission process. I didn't have too much trouble, but there were some things I wasn't quite sure of. If you would like, I can head this project up by doing a rough draft and someone else (who knows more than I do) can finish it.

I just checked the site and the submission form changed. So now, it's just the option to accept custom work. I am pretty sure I know what this means, but I could be wrong. That's not a big issue really. But it's mainly an issue of where to publish your listing. here are the categories I have questions about:

News & Informational
What would go here? Blogs? Tutorial sites?

Project Management
What kind of services would be considered a "project management" type?

Freelancing
Are these companies with only one person running it?

1: News: this would be for Blogs and news sites (IE: SDRnews, CMSreport ...) Tytorials have their own catagory.

2: this would be for "project Managers" there are companys out there that provide project management services that are not really developers but complete project management.

3: you can choose which fits best here, some people call themselve's freelancers because they do development only part-time. but anyone call call themselve a freelancer or a consultant

Ok, I just registered and added my listing. Some comments for this process:

1) It took some time before I figured out where to add my listing, I expected to find a link in the menu or on "My Page"

2) Its not clear to add http:// to the website link or not.

Wonderful job people! Congrats!

Can you please provide some light on how long it takes for your authorization and some transparency on the process itself?

Provided some entries 1/2 day ago and no feed-back yet?

Please advise?

Thank you Steven but that answers none of my 2 posts above?

I do happen to know Joomla a little I believe ;) and I was logged in, and a 403/404 on an exit is a bug and should relay different instead of producing an error. When a submission is not yet approved and somebody clicks "my-page" (in my case just the closing of the submission the error happens) is should get a proper redirction to a "your submission is not yet approved" page!

Leo, the process for now is going to be based on the TOS As the site grows and things come up we might expand the guidelines.

As for a timeline, we've been at this a little over 24 hours and we're really as new to this as you are, so these first few weeks might take a little while as we iron out small issues and discuss within the team where necessary. Not to mention, we've had quite a surge of submissions as result of the launch, which, after a while I'm sure will not be the norm.

Have You all considered Having community editors ? Something similar to the way dmoz has editors review submissions.

BTW
Thanks for your hard work!

If you want to Add your listing you need:

1) login
2) choose the category (for instance "hosting")
3) top right of main page you see "add you listing" link

Works indefinitely

Great work! I'd like to get to know the group and find out the best way to get involved in the JRD somehow. My company has been using Joomla for 3 years and it's time we give back to the core.

This is a great tool...as one of the oldies on the Mambo listings, glad to see it for Joomla.

I'm a bit confused about a few things:

1) Distinction of "popular" - I'm assuming this is the number of hits to the entry, as it is obviously not based upon # of comments.

2) Order of listing - purely last in goes to the top of the list? Doesn't seem to play that way.

3) Featured listings - how do those work?

Thanks,
3by400, Inc.

would something that has 1000 bad comments and one good one be popular? the popularity stems from clicks to the site.
2) Order of listing - purely last in goes to the top of the list? Doesn't seem to play that way.
i believe it works of a chaotic equation , much like Google search! :geek:
3) Featured listings - how do those work?
i couldnt find "featured " option :-[
