Joomla Community Magazine's Quality Is Getting Worse

Post by itoctopus » Wed Feb 05, 2014 12:03 am

First, I know that I'm posting in the wrong forum, but this is the most active forum, and I do not want to post this message on a forum that nobody has posted anything on since November of last year. Feel free to move this thread if you think it's unimportant or doesn't belong here.

Now, let me start...

I read Joomla's Community Magazine every month because a large part of my business is built around Joomla, but lately, I have noticed that its quality is moving in the wrong direction. I didn't want to say anything about it until today, precisely when reading this post: http://magazine.joomla.org/issues/issue ... joomla-3-0

Other than the shallow content and the many grammatical errors in that post (it seems that no editor has reviewed it), such as: "The first", "The second", "Create a sitemap to get Index Google", etc..., there are also some factual errors, such as:

"Get lots internal and external linking" (which also doesn't make sense grammatically, but in any case): This is one of the worst advice in SEO - and it's an advice that gets the website owner in trouble. The most important thing is to create content, and then let those links flow in, slowly but surely. As for "you should have a lot of internal links", we have had a few clients who started digging out old articles and linking to other articles on their website, and they got eventually penalized.

As for this one:

"You must create a sitemap": This hasn't been true for the past few years. Google checks the sitemap but it doesn't guarantee that the sitemap will be indexed. In fact, the best thing is to ensure that every page is accessible from at least one other page. A sitemap is not necessary at all.

I think these posts do more harm than good to Joomla and to Joomla's own community since they convey a sense of unprofessionalism and amateurism. Joomla's Magazine must be monitored in a better way, and such posts must not be allowed, not only for the bad English, but also for the bad information.

The whole point of this post is to bring the issue to the attention of the bigwigs in Joomla. I hope it works.

Thanks for listening and, again, I apologize for writing in the wrong forum.

Added a comment to it ... lets see if it gets added ?
This article is incorrect and misleading. Why was this person (who obviously knows nothing about correct seo) allowed to post this trash ?

The mistakes made in the article are too numerous to list ... here are just a few.

"The Title tag is what shows up in the search engines as click able headlines for your page"
Incorrect ... the Title tag is between the Header tags and can be seen in the html view.

"The Metadata Settings are in Global Configuration of Joomla Setting"
Misleading because they are also in menu item edit screens and in Article edit screens.

"It automatically generates keywords and description for each article to help with SEO."
It is better to manually write your own keywords so that you are sure they match what you want to convey.

Good point alikon ... But even so ... if a magazine article has technical information then the accuracy or inaccuracy of the information reflects the quality of the magazine.

For goodness sake ... even the title is incorrect ... just look at the version in the title. If the magazine continues to publish articles that have that degree of inaccuracy then what image is that giving of Joomla as a quality CMS ?
