Hi,
I know, this is offtopic theme, but I think, not a standard windows vs. mac debate.
Recently, If I ask CMS users, why they didn't select Joomla! for their projects, I get different answers and ideas (see below). Maybe Joomla! should have some analytical team to understand them and take advantages from such feedback information
Why writing such topic? See the image in attachment, it tells everything (Source: Google Trends -
http://www.google.com/trends/?q=joomla, ... ss,+drupal ).
When looking at the picture, I think of different questions (confirmed by many users arguments)
:: Do the search trends saying something about popularity and using of CMS ... not really sure, but I think, yes
:: Ok, many people are using Facebook instead of creating own CMS site, so it makes sense, that using of CMS will decrease ... but seems like this is not a case of Wordpress, also Drupal's decline is not so large like by Joomla!
Now the ideas of users:
:: Joomla! is changing dramatically, example: "I wanted to use Joomla! but one of the extension worked for Joomla! 1.5, second for 2.5 ... so which version to select? I selected other CMS :-(""
I know this is heavy discussed topic but very important because of strategic decision-making and yes, Joomla! 2.5 is stable so seems like this topic is not active but I think it is - because of future development. From the different discussions, I can see, many webdesigners leaving Joomla! because there is no stability. I as developer understand, some things must be radically changed to follow new trends and I by myself like new changes in 2.5, but seems like this is really serious problem :-(
:: Joomla! development cycle ... it is really right cycle for CMS? - many webdesigners don't undestand the "between" versions (like Joomla! 1.6, 1.7) and ask, what to use: Stable (1.5) or some "between" version (1.6, 1.7) without long-time support but with new features? Example: Webdesigners are looking for obsolete extensions because they have installed Joomla! 1.6 and now they cannot upgrade, because developer of one extension, they used, is not able due to time issues to convert the extensions for newest version of Joomla! (it is really hard for developers to follow rapid changes)
Nice Example: Waiting for stable version of VirtueMart (which is a key Joomla! extension)
Yes, 2.5 is stable and many developers are finishing their extensions to be ready for it but will all this happen with new future version of Joomla! - seems like yes, see discussion about new planned features (e.g. on people.joomla.org) where people have a great fear of next overwriting of extensions (developers) or constant migrating websites (webdesigners)
So the question: Are the search outcomes related somehow to this fear of developers and webdesigners? Seems like something is wrong? But what? :-) Maybe the trends say nothing at all about popularity and using of CMS but what if they do?
