Add an option to mod_feed to display the pubDate

I was looking for a way to display the article's publication date in the RSS feed but found nothing in the standard mod_feed options. After some searching, I came across two forum posts that say you need write custom code in order to display it:

Add pubDate to RSS feeder?
pubDate in mod_feed

Can we please get this as a standard option in mod_feed, just like we can choose whether to display the feed title? An article's publication date is a quick, easily visible way for a user to assess how up to date a page's content is.
