Ubuntu or Windows 7 ?

Post by Webdongle » Wed Feb 01, 2012 12:39 pm

Recently my main PC crashed Ubuntu OS. I have it running again but now have a new laptop with Windows 7. My question is which OS is better to use for testing patches on SVN or is there no difference.

With Ubuntu I use command line to test patches and that seems easier to me than with a GUI.

Am wondering if I should use my main PC with Ubuntu OS for testing or if to use the laptop with Windows 7. I don't want to pile too much onto the laptop but using one computer might be more convenient than switching between two.

Any advice/opinion would be welcome.

Addendum
Main PC is 192.168.1.2 and is linked to the modem via lan cable. Laptop is wireless and shows the PC in the 'network'. Perhaps an answers lays there somewhere.

I know that Joomla should be OS agnostic but it is good to see it being tested across the widest range of OS and browser.
Since loading Win 7 I have had to admit a grudging respect for it as a stable OS. It is a far better offering than just about anything that MS has pushed out the door to early in past 10 years and it is quickly become my weapon of choice for testing and general use.
It is has nearly supplanted Mint 10 which is pretty close to Ubuntu but without the horrible GUI. I shudder when I hear of the heads up display that is to come!
For my money use Win 7 as the main tool and run Ubuntu ( or Mint if you are smart ;) ) in an Oracle VM and test with both. You can get the best of both worlds then.

I am standing by to get flamed!

Methinks testing and building sites is Ubuntu. Because I just spent hours trying to repair a site on my laptop. It appears that xampp on win 7 is missing a few things >:( because it worked on Ubuntu :p
