I am trying to update a contact list and keep getting the error:

Save failed with the following error: The name of this contact is already used. Please enter another name

I have tried deleting the contact and re-entering but still get the error.

How can I mange the contact list as people change positions routinely and everytime I try to save a change on any individulal I get the error.

Any help appreciated.

Same problem here on 2.5.6.
Cannot edit and change contacts.

Tried to empty the cache, but that didn't make any difference.

Oh, I've noticed that the problem only exists for some contacts. This is what I did:

Created 20 or so users, this automatically creates contacts. Those contacts I can update.

Time went by, and I forgot how I did it the first time.
So this time I created 2 contacts. But when sorting of the contacts didn't seem to work I created two users with the same name. Since that creates contacts automatically I had duplets. Deleted the first contacts. But the automatically created contact is not possible to edit.

Deleting was a unix process and turned into a windows process.
Delete something and it will get the status of deleted. Delete something with status deleted and it will get removed. So empty your trash, not cache!
You can filter on trashed objects, select them and delete them again! They'll be gone now. Unique constrains will work as expected now.

Thank you!

I thought trash was a typo. But emptying the trash bin worked perfectly, now I can edit those contacts.
