403 Error Front End Article Edit

I am working on a live Joomla 2.5.11 site and until recently front end article editing was working perfect.

It appears that now, one of their categories, when you go to edit on front end, after you click save, it gives:

Code: Select all

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /index.php/rules on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I can save one article in this category without it giving the 403 error, the rest, nope.

I have no problems whatsoever editing it on the back end.

Strangely I have this cropping up in Joomla 3 as well and there is no accounting for which article will/not edit or why.

Its a peculiar problem that were not getting a lot of answers for. I've looked at server error logs and all that I can come with is a file is missing, which makes no sense..

For this particular project, I even deleted the category that was causing the problems, emptied the trash and recreated it. Still the same results.

I decided, im not going to spend the time fixing it, when I could just use a fresh install..

Even more odd is that I have this error on a couple of pages but not on all, having just finished a compled site, I'm loathe to reinstall.

I cant the site has completely shut down with a 500 server error. It started with the article edit, then the owners did something and the site is, gggggonnnnneee...

I am trying to pack it up and move it to my server to try to restore it.
