Hi! I made a portfolio site for a friend of mine who just started out as a grafic designer/illustrator.
www.illustratiefontwerp.nl

Special about this site is that we tweaked the Zoom component to fit the style of the site.
The site as a whole doens't look like a standard joomla site, we tried to make it look unique and I think we managed because she is a graphic designer, but what do you think?

Thanks, Marijke

Very nice looking site! Great job! What template is yours based off of? Or is it custom made? Check out the Forum Stickied Threads and maybe fill out the form, I'm interested in seeing all of the stuff you've done with the site!

Hi there,
Thanks so much for your reply and compliments!
I made the template myself. It was my first joomla one, but I have been making custom sites for a few years. Looking at the source I haven't even used div's. I have made the switch to divs now. The one I am building now http://partyland.kovoks.nl is made in divs..

I'm sorry, I am new to the forum, so I haven't got a clue what you mean with: "Check out the Forum Stickied Threads and maybe fill out the form, I'm interested in seeing all of the stuff you've done with the site!"

But thank you for responding!
Marijke

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,111910.0.html

Another great looking website, by the way!

Thanks again!
Well I didn't know about these rules, lets see:
www.illustratiefontwerp.nl

Template: made it myself
Additional Extensions: (Components, Modules, Plug ins): Zoom Media Gallery (portfolio, but modyfied the look) Joomaps, JoomlaStats, that's about it. It a pretty basic site really.
Custom Development: template and portfolio
Other Features: no, maybe in future..
Three (at least) specific areas of my site that I'd like feedback on (design, code, graphics, etc.):
1. is the navigation of the portfolio clear?
2. the front of the site seems a bit bare, anyone any ideas how to make it more interesting?
3. does anyone know a really good portfolio component?

Additional Comments:
I hope my post doesn't disappear in the rejected pile now  :-[

Yes thanks, I tried that, but they all were not what we were looking for. Among other things, the main problem was that most portfolio components display categories first. Offcource there are ways around that, linking not to the portfolio but to one of the categories, but it would have been nice if there was just a very simple portfolio: click on portfolio, see a list of works in thumbnails with a little text and then click on one and get a popup with a few works in there.

But as I said, we just tweeked zoom a bit and that worked!

Thanks for replying!

That's a really cool site.

It's refreshing to see something different. I think the site is good as it is, no need to change anything though i might add a wallpaper - the white background seems to make the paper stand in the air even though you do have drop shadow but it just seems a little flat. Adding a wallpaper may make it look like it is stuck onto a wall so to adds a bit more life to it ??? (anyway, my own personal thought that might not work). The rest is great, perfect to showcase a portfolio.

1. is the navigation of the portfolio clear? Crystal clear and great position on the page

2. the front of the site seems a bit bare, anyone any ideas how to make it more interesting? read above comment

3. does anyone know a really good portfolio component? I used PortFol v1.2 beta for my showcase and it works really well. Maybe it might fit your design but I did have to hack it slightly to fit my design.

great work :)

Well many many thanks! I'll pass the compliments on to my friend. I don't think she wants wallpaper, but I'll try :-)
This PortFol v1.2 beta I havent heard of yet. I'll definitly have a look at it. A little tweeking never did enyone any harm!

Uniek design!

The thing I like is the obvious menu and overall unique design. It's crisp and clear!

PS Werk jij als een webdeveloper freelancer of is het een mooie hobby van je?

Oh thank you, that is very nice of you to say! As I said the illustrator friend of mine designed it (although I helped a bit  ;)
Well I work for a company. I have been making sites for years, but only started joomla a few months ago. It helps having made sites for a long time. I can change some PHP if I need to and it has never been so easy to make a site, I love joomla. We use to use our own CMS, but it doesn't measure up against joomla.

I work for kovoks.nl my portfolio is visible at internet/webdesign/portfolio... another site of mine is leverpatientenvereniging.nl. But it's illustratiefontwerp I am most proud of!

Lovely your enthousiasm, have you made any Joomla sites?

Marijke
