Hi Joomlafans,
While I know that Betas are essential for development I am really keen like everyone else I would imagine to see a stable release of J1.6.. Has anyone from Joomla got any idea as to when the first stable release of it will be? The reason I ask is I have noticed there will be a Beta 8 and from memory this is the first time Joomla has had so many betas...

any information / feedback would be greatly appreciated.

That's because there is a strict two week beta release cycle. As there currently is no list of showstoppers before the first release candidate is released, it's hard to guess when final will be released.

Is it possible then that 1.6 as a release will be ditched and released as 1.7 that would be the next question or would it just be left as 1.6 and as a result have 1.7 releases put back from the scheduled dates mentioned at various joomla day's..

Any sort of "hard" date I've heard of has been best guesses. There had been hopes to release RC this month; it might not happen. 1.7 will be released 6 months after 1.6 is released as stable, that's the only firm statement I've heard since Beta 1.

1.6 will be released as 1.6, why change version numbers? So far there are no indications that any work on 1.7 has been done, so if a half year schedule will be kept, it will be a glorified service pack.
