Hi there,

right now with Joomla 1.6 beta 13, when you have a category with subcategories within e.g. blog or feed you can't display all articles right away. A list of subcategories is displayed below parent category articles and you are always linked to a grid where you can choose subcategories and in the end you get one list of articles of a specific subcategory. This makes sense and is very logical, but it would be an great enhanchement if someone could display all articles as one blog layout also. Description of Category will tell you what subcategory you are looking at and you can use 1 blog layout for all articles.

Is this something interesting to be worked on or will it be in the final? I found some post of other users on the internet that also struggle with this feature.

Does nobody know if this feature will be in for Joomla 1.6

Feature I am looking for:
Displaying all subcategories as 1 blog layout instead of displaying a grid or list of all subcategories where you have to navigate first until you reach one specific subcategory...

There is an option within Article Manager->Options->Categories->List or Blog Layout, but in Joomla 1.6 beta 13 I can't see any effect with this! Therefore I am not sure if this will be the feature I am looking for.

If noticed the same. In version 1.5 there is a nice way to display the rest of the categories in blog-format, but in 1.6 you can only see linked category-names. Hopefely there is a way to display in the same way as in 1.5.

i think this will come...would make sense, since you can include and exclude sub categories

i have notice that as well.

Asume i got a categorie of fruits with nested categories of apples, bananas, oranges etc. Now i need a blog view of all the articles from the nested categories and not the categorie list fom the nested categorie.

A Menutype blog Layout, categorie fruits will not work. It only shows the categorie list, because the articles are only in the sub categories (apples, bananas etc) and not in fruits

Is there a way get that or isn't that possible. Hope someone can help me out

Edit: i use 1.6 RC1

I am also with 1.6 RC 1 and waiting for this feature to come...combined with "load components" you could have a nice multiple blog section within start site

I think the category + subcategory blog layout feature will be implemented in the next RC/ Final. This is how I interpret this bug tracker entry

I'm trying out Joomla 1.6 now and would really like to achieve this.

category & subcategory - all articles in 1 blog layout

I have a parent category and it's broken into subcategories, so technically the parent category is empty, but it contains multiple subcategories with articles. I would like it so that multiple subcategories could appear together in the same blog layout.

Now that Joomla 1.6 has been released, does anyone know if this is possible?

My mistake. I thought I had tried this option before, but tried again and it's working.

It's under Blog Layout Options in the Edit Menu Item panel. I think I had confused it with a similar option under Category Options, "Subcategory Levels" where the tip says "The number of subcategory levels to display."
