Target="_blank" not working properly

Target="_blank" not working properly

Joomla 2.5.28

Hi

despite setting target="_blank" for external links, this instryction is not being followed.

So for example, the code ion the backenmd for onbe extenral link is

<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.chiswicklifeboat.org.uk/" target="_blank">http://www.chiswicklifeboat.org.uk/</a>

but when I check the code in firebug it says:

<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.chiswicklifeboat.org.uk/">ht ... org.uk/</a>

i.e no target="_blank"

Any ideas why this is being stripped out?
