Copy option disappeared in Article manager

We are planning the migration from Joomla 1.5 (more exactly: 1.5.22) to Joomla 1.6, the last stable version.

Our research on Joomla 1.6 reveals one important problem for us, and we haven't found any solution: in Article Manager, we can't see the Copy article option, that we consider very useful.

Edit the article you want to copy, and choose Save as Copy (after setting a new title/alias).

This was probably done because it's not allowed anymore to have a duplicate article with the same alias and just a copy option would give it the same alias.

This is of course not a bad change, but i guess having the copy option and have joomla maybe add a number after a duplicate title/alias would be better. Best of both worlds.

Actually, that function is still planned to be restored. I had been working on a solution at one point before other issues took me away, and I've seen a working solution from another developer. It will be brought back. In the meantime, yes, you can use Save as Copy when editing an erticle.

Why not just move the "Save as Copy" button up one level in the system so that it appears and functions at the Article/Category LIST level?

Probably should look at that modification for all LIST displays.

It isn't life or death, but would be a good mod for 1.6.x version in the future.
