Joomla integrated captcha not working?

Hello there, yes i tried both separate and none of them work for me, switch global and user but no change, i only get the capcha text on the form, thanks for your replies.

Me to but in the contact form.

I went as far as re install 2.5 from scratch bc before i just update it through back end thinking that maybe some files were corrupted but nothing, for now i may stay without capcha.

Hello fellows,
for your contact forms you have to switch on the captcha option in the CONTACT manager, NOT in the user manager.
Switching it on in the user manager ONLY affects the forgotten password form and the registration form but not contact forms!
Maybe is this the problem?

In my case a'm using a third party application for the contact form, so that dont work for me, thanks Richard67!!!

Hi again folks,

well, if you would visit my site http://www.richard-fath.de (is worth a visit, is nice Music there played by myself), you would see that I do not use the Joomla builtin captcha, too.

I had it working, but the Google ReCaptcha is hard to read, and even if the Joomla team managed that the help text is shown in the currently adjusted site language (I have a multilingual site), the audio version of the captcha is allways being read in German (maybe because Google can detect that my IP address is a German one, or they allways read it in German), and the audio version is almost impossible to understand.

And so I decided not to use it, never had spam via the contact form.

But I wish you good luck with your sites.

And cojimar, maybe you should check your third party contact form provider if they offer additional Captcha plugin for it - often they do.

Yes, for both contact and login, where I once had the Captcha working, I use SSL.
I have a certificate for my site so I never had problems.

I would be happy if you would vote for those recordings you like (voting buttons top left).
And if you want you can test my Phocaguestbook Captcha ;-)
Unfortunately the JWPlayer Advanced has a bug so the thumbnail image with song name is shown only for the first song of a playlist, and only until second song begins or something else in the playlist is clicked. Hope this will be fixed soon, have a ticket there.
For any feedback if something else does not work I would be happy. You can use my contact form of course, it has no captcha ;-)

The question was to all on the thread that have a problem. There is a known bug http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... m_id=28075 There is a patch ready to test

And the guys here said they already have tried this.
So this is not really new information.

It is new information because there is now a patch
By examining the patch you will find
/plugins/captcha/recaptcha//recaptcha.php
line 25 changes from
const RECAPTCHA_API_SECURE_SERVER = "https://api-secure.recaptcha.net";
to
const RECAPTCHA_API_SECURE_SERVER = "https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api";

So even if you can't test the patch directly you can edit the file to see if it works.

was exactly what I had suggested in post number 16 of this thread and have successfully tested:

Means I have changed line 25 of plugins/captcha/recaptcha/recaptcha.php to following:

const RECAPTCHA_API_SECURE_SERVER = "https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api";

But good to know there is a patch now so I guess it will be included in the next release and I don't have to repeat my change then after an upgrade.

Hmm, I just have an idea, cojimar, is maybe silly because I think is not your problem, but who know:
Have you switched on site caching?
If so, maybe delete the cache files in the backend's maintenance screen, both admin and site, and try again.
I have caching off.

Use a standard Template as default until you get recaptcha working. That way you can rule out badly written Template overrides.

Also do you have any 3rd party extension that handles user control ?

But since then you edited the file so you don't know if that fixed the problem until you check using a default Template. If you test all your changes with a custom Template then you don't know if an override is preventing you see you fixed things.

Yes, its not the template, i am using RSforms in two other places of the site but never in the registration form,

On line 58 change:

For:

... and test.

Sounds like I'm having the same problem as cojimar. It only shows "Captcha*", but nothing else, and when I hit submit on the form I get a message "Empty solution not allowed."
I'm also having the problem in a third party extension and have tried the same solutions, but it's not working.
