Default search module problems.

Hi, everyone. I'm brand new to Joomla and trying to put together my first Joomla site. During the process, I have been able to figure out whatever problems I have run into with a little research. This is the first one that truly has me stumped.

I have placed a search box on my site using the default Joomla search module. I am only wanting it to search the "real content" of my website, of course. Instead, it returns search results for categories, menus, articles, etc. If somebody click on one of these results (besides the articles), it immediately takes them to a 404 page.

Does anybody know how to restrict what the search box will find to only useful and relevant search results?
