Deep-linking giving 500 server error

Im using j2.5.4

I have a members only site so my homepage is simply the login module. Everything else is set to the "registered" access level.

When I send a link to an internal page via email, when clicked I was hoping it would bring up the login module, then after login the user would go on to the linked page. Instead I get a "500 error - content not available".

Is there anyway I can prevent this and send my users to a login screen?
