Hi,
Not sure if this is the best place to post this but I have a few questions about the next step in Joomla!.
With 3.0 looking like a September release, can we expect the one-click upgrade to allow us to go from 2.5.X to 3.0?
Or are we talking a full migration like 1.5 to 1.6?
Any info would be great, we just want to supply our clients with as much information as possible.
Thanks
Shan

3.0 is only short term support. IMHO it is best to wait until 3.5 which is the next LTS

Thanks for your reply.
We manage about 100 Joomla! sites at the moment and in the most recent family of Joomla! releases, we have updated dozens from 1.6 -> 2.5 with no major issues.
If the path from 2.5 -> 3.0 is also as smooth then its not an issue.
I just remember the pain of going 1.0 -> 1.5 and 1.5 -> 1.6 all to well.... :)

I also seem to remember reading that with the more frequent releases, Joomla! was moving to easier to upgrade paths.

AFAIK Joomla 3.0 will not show as an available update for 2.5 unless default settings in Joomla are altered.

If you look in Components >>> Joomla! Update ... options ... set to 'custom url' and put http://www.xxx,com ... save and close.

Then go to Extensions >>> Extension manager ... Update tab ... Purge and check for updates ... The error will show that the Components >>> Joomla! Update ... options controls the location for updates.

With PHP allow_url_fopen Off Components >>> Joomla! Update will show
"The PHP allow_url_fopen setting is disabled. This setting must be enabled for the updater to work."
But that warning applies to extensions because Components >>> Joomla! Update will still update Joomla.

It would be good if we could get some official word on this.
I have seen patches that will aid the process but its more a matter of whether this is official or not.
Here is the current work that is happening: https://gist.github.com/2314303/
