I am working on a site for a friend of mine and having an issue with the contact form. When you first click on the Contact form, it opens up showing contact information but you have to click on Contact Form to actually see the form. Once you do click on Contact Form, the alignment is not correct when the form loads.

Also, is there a way that the contact information and the contact form can always be displayed?

The site if someone would need to look at the site, it is http://test.premiernetworks.net

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like your Global option is to use the slider feature.
Go to the contact component, then options, first tab under options...down about 10 items or so...item for diplay..slider, tabs or plain.

You can also override it from the menu side under display options.

Tom

PS... Looks like you need to adjust you CSS on the form to get everything to align correctly.

Also look at Options for Contacts

Thanks Hutchy68 and Webdongle, with your replies I was able to get the form to display without having to click the CONTACT FORM short cut. Now to play with the CSS to get the alignment correct. Still working, all new to me so I really appreciated your comments.

With the previous help, I was able to get the form to display all the time like I wanted. The formatting is working but the labels are not correct and the form is not working. Please take a look at the Contact us form at http://test.premiernetworks.net and any advise would be appreciated. A post I found during an online search stated remove the COM_CONTACT folder. When I did that the form and labels worked properly but the layout was all messed up. When I put that folder back, the layout is in the right order but all the COM_CONTACT is present, the form does not work and all the labels are missing.

Any advise again would be appreciated.

You have to assign a contact who will receive the form email. Look at the contact component again. Then check the menu item to make sure the correct one is chosen.

Thank you for responding Hutchy68, I did check the contact component and I only have one contact listed in there. I went ahead and checked the menu item and that contact is selected there as well. Any other thoughts by chance on what is causing this?

Thanks again for your time.

Try creating another menu item called Contact US-2 from scratch. See if you get the same outcome. If so, then look at the Contacts from the components drop down. Start new and create a contact in the contact form component. I don't use the new system for Contacts, but a quick look on project I'm working on and it might be tied to not setting a user connection for the contact. The messages on the frontend seems like the contact form has no idea who to send an email to because the contact is not set in the backend admin for the contact component.

Hutchy68, I created a new contact as well as a new menu item and the same thing happens. I left it on there if you want to take a look at:

Thanks again for your time.

Possibly your mail server is not configured properly in Global Configuration?

The Twitter problem was just an image that was missing a link! That's fixed now too.

Edit - never mind, I just posted to the wrong thread!

MoonfireArt, I just checked the server settings and compared them with another Joomla site that I have completed. While there were a couple of minor changes I had to make, the contact form still looks the same.

I just solved a similar problem for someone else. The problem was that they did not have the contact (in the component) linked to a user, and the e-mail entry was blank. We fixed this, and the form worked fine.

MoonfireArt, I checked and the contacts were not associated with a user. I did create a user and associated that user with the contact form. Still displays the same thing. Any thoughts?

Did you try removing the override com_contact folder in your template's folder? You don't have to remove it, just rename...

>templates>html>com_contact to com_contactOLD or something

With that done, Joomla will load the core com_contact, just make sure you refresh your broswer and delete all cache files if you are caching.

Don't worry about the formating, is it working? If it is working, then it is your template override files and the template creator is to blame.

OK, I renamed that file and the labels are correct now and the form does work. Thank you so much for that, a little closer now...... The formatting is out of wack now though. It was mentioned earlier that this may need to be corrected in the CSS, if that is the case, I have not done that and so far have not been able to locate the CSS file where I would need to do this.

It would be your template.css file.

This should get you started:

Add this:
Code:
dl {
   width:75%;
}
dl dt {
   float:left;
   clear:left;
   width:25%;
   padding:1em;
   margin:0 -1px 0 0;
}
dl dd {
   width:50%;
   padding:1em;
   float: left;
   margin: 0;
   clear: right;
}

Place it in the file called, styles.css in your template folder. Here is the path.

/templates/pwc002_j16/css/styles.css

That should give you the correct format. See my screen capture.

Tom

Hutchy68, thank you so much. Being new to Joomla, I don't think (OK, I know I wouldn't have) found that solution. The form is working perfectly now and the layout looks great. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hutchy68, I got so excited that the form was working I did not notice that one thing is still a little off line. If you look at the contact for under the contact information, you will notice that the Phone Number Icon and number are slightly indexed. Normally this is aligned completely left like the other information. Do you by chance know why on this one?

Because the padding for the bottom of the icons is at odds...

Go back to your style.css file and open it to edit it...

Look for .contact .jicons-icons and replace everything between the { } so it looks like below.

Here is the fix:
Code:
.contact .jicons-icons{
   padding: 5px 10px 0px 0px;
   float: left;
}

Although this looks better and was probably what the template designer meant to do.
Code:
.contact .jicons-icons{
   padding: 5px 10px 0px 10px;
   float: left;
}

Quick lesson see http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_padding.asp

Tom,

Thank you for the quick response, the fix and the additional link. I think all looks and works great. Don't know how I could repay you but I owe you one.

Paul
