move users to a new site

I am thinking that must be away of moving users from an existing site to a brand new site

My users are on both a 1.5 site and a 2.5 site that I used jupgrade to upgrade with

The problem you'll probably get is that, since users are on two different sites, they might have the same user IDs.
A way would be to import users from ONE site into the new site and then let the rest register again or register them manually yourself.

The same users are on both site so only need to move one set

How do you move and from which version is easier the new site is version 2.5

In that case very easy: just update your "old" J!2.5 site to the newest version J! 2.5.6. Then export database and copy the files to its new location, in case you need to move the whole site to a different physical location. Done.

I have been using joomla for many years but do not know how the db works except that it just works with joomla

I have update the site to 2.5.6 created a new blank site with 2.5.6

Can I please have step by step instruction or a link that will explain how I move the just the users to the new site I don't want any of the other content or structure
