Everything was working fine on my site, uploading of images worked fine then all of a sudden it tells me File type not supported File: undefined I changed nothing, added nothing. It wont take jpg, gif, png neither upper or lower case.

I can however upload any image using media manager, just not in article mode neither front nor back end
Any ideas? I tried search here but it keeps telling me I cant use the search feature.
Is this a joomla problem or JCE Editor?

When did your problem start? could this be something that is targeting Joomla sites only? This seems all to weird that all of a sudden many people experience the same issue at the same time. I have spoken to others who encountered the same problem. I changed my setting to every way I can imagine, its almost as if its a denial issue.

I had originally had problems last week getting the browse files to even pull up, for wed and thurs of last week it wouldnt work then now as of yesterday i can browse files, pick the one i want and it goes thru the upload process but then gives me the file error. i tried it from the website and it says it uploads the photo without giving me an error, it says 100% upload completed but no photo appears. I am glad my boss is understanding because i can see someone getting fired over not being able to maintain the website.....is there always so many problems with Joomla...im new to the site but not knew to the game, this is ridiculous!!

It seems apparently that no one has a solution to this problem or we are just being ignored. I cant understand why all of a sudden it started doing this. Does anyone have any ideas?

@ Wizzard308: Did you check the media types in the global settings and/or in JCE?

Are you running Joomla 1.7? If so as the devil to Joomla 2.5 upgrade before you get hacked. Joomla 1.7 is EndOfLife

Media types are all there, made sure I used both upper and lowercase. It wont accept any type in the front end or back end article creation but I can use the media manager to upload. Yes I am using 1.7.3 :(
Perhaps I WAS hacked and this is come kind of denial issue? I dunno its really confusing.

First things first:
1) Upgrade to Joomla 2.5.6 You use the extension manager to do that. Read what I posted here: viewtopic.php?f=625&t=691030
2) JCE version you are using (you just updated a few days ago?)does not work with your current Joomla version. Once you have upgraded Joomla you upgrade JCE. You will see that this is the case if you change the editor to JCE...My best guess it works well with TinyMCE for sure

So please follow my advise since your Joomla version is very vulnerable for attacks

Only thing, I didnt upgrade JCE at all. Only changes I made in the last week was the addition of captcha on the comments section. Im going to try to disable that just for testing purposes here. then proceed with upgrades if nothing changes.

you MUST upgrade. Your Joomla version is vulnerable for hacks and has published security issues!!!!! Do yourself a favor and upgrade before it is too late.... (Just one button and fully automated!!!!)

Ok I updated to the newest version 2.5.6.
Had to go to JCE itself to update it. So far it seems to have fixed the issue.
Will do some more testing later today, way too tired right now.
Thanks Leo, seems this was the fix.
