Cannot add module to article unless article is in menu

Post by smcclure » Fri Nov 09, 2012 9:35 pm

I would like to add a module to one of my articles. But the only way the module will add to the article is if that article is in a published menu. However, I do not want my article to be in a published menu. I only want to access the article via its link.

I have tried adding the article to a "dummy" menu item that is published but not visible on the site. But this also doesnt work.

Any ideas?

Is this really the only way? By way of an extension?

AFAIK in Joomla you can select to display on all pages, no pages, all except based on menu items ... but not to select specific Articles. That extension gives greater control.

You could create a 'Hidden' menu and create menu items to all the Articles of categories. That way you have menu items to assign the modules to.

In case anyone comes along this post and needs the answer:

The way to do this is to:
- create a new menu (call it say, Hidden Menu)
- Add menu item to new menu and choose ARTICLE LAYOUT and choose your article
- Apply changes and then copy link in menu item...also take note of ID
- Go to the module in module manager, that you want to appear in your article and add the new article in the Hidden Menu
- Finally (and this is the trick) any button that links to this article must have the link you just copied AND this at the end of the URL: Itemid="your ID # from the menu item"
