How to make multiple sites pull user data from 1 DB

I want to set up multiple sub-domains that run their own installations and databases, such as:

1.anysite.com
2.anysite.com
3.anysite.com

However I want ALL sub-domains to use 1 database for users, so anyone can log into any subdomain. This way, each subdomain has it's own database, but all subdomains share users.

How can this be configured?
