Category List Doesnt Display Multiple Category Articles

I have several menu items set for Category List all displaying articles correctly except for articles in multiple sub-categories. Does the Category List only display articles in 1 subcategory? If so, is there a way around this?

For instance I have the top level DESERTS selected which has 1 and 2 sub-categories. The following shows no articles for CAKES.:

DESERTS
- Bars and Squares
- Brownies and Blondies
- Cakes
--- Angel Food Cakes
--- Bundt Cakes
--- ....

Yes the category list will show items from a single category, however the Articles Category module will display from as many categories as selected and in tree view as desired.
