Email not being sent

Post by urbanity2002 » Tue Jan 06, 2015 3:16 pm

I'm having a hard time sending out emails. The form module I use is RSForms Pro, and it uses the joomla mail settings to function.

I've gone into the Global Configuration Server settings and tried PHP Mail and SMTP, but neither seem to work. When I use SMTP it keeps saying that my email address is failing.

Here are my SMTP Settings:
Mailer : SMTP
From email: [email protected]
From Name: Name of Website
Sendmail Path: default
SMTP Authentication: Yes
SMTP Security: SSL
SMTP Port : 465
SMTP Username: [email protected]
SMTP Password: my password
SMTP Host: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

And when I use PHP Mail it keeps returning the mail back to me with the following message:

Mail Delivery System
To
me
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

It seems that the server that you're trying to send email from is not added to your SPF list. You will need to do that from your host.

We have written a post explaining the process here: http://www.itoctopus.com/spf-records-an ... la-website . Hope it helps.

urbanity2002,

Hi! What happened? Did you fix it? I am having this same problem and it's killing me. I have tried Yahoo and Gmail, but neither works. Do I have to ask my website host to do something? If so, what? Maybe itoctopus can expand his answer? I read your article but couldn't understand it. Thanks!

Hi,

I had this problem once, in the early stages of my Joomla Life!

The problem was that I was using a SH*T host, actually free.
As I was just experimenting at the time I did not want to pay for real hosting, understandable I think.

As soon as i changed to a real host (paid for) all my problems disappeared.
It seems that Yahoo in particular blocks most email from these FREE hosts because of the spam that is sent from them, Gmail was more forgiving.

This may not be the answer to your problems but it may help others that are in the position I was in a couple of years ago. :)

Try to:
Port - 465 or 587
Requires SSL - Yes
Requires TLS - Yes (if available)
Requires authentication - Yes

I realized a mistake I was making that may help others. I had set-up my email on the global configuration as *somebody*@yahoo.ca So any emails joomla was sending out were claiming to be from the yahoo server. I changed the email address to one from my domain, and the emails went through. Hope this helps.
